Exige S2 Exhaust - new Janspeed

Post by a4drk » Tue Apr 05, 2016 11:57 pm

I've just bought the one that's been on eBay for a few weeks
What's do you think " Track use only" means in the way of noise ?
It says it's a lotus stage 3

Wonder if this is quieter or louder than my 2bular with blown packing ??

It'll be a howler. Stage 3 is the clue, surely?! Good luck :-)

I suspect it will be quieter than a blown packing exhaust (I remember Scotty at Oulton Park with a silencer that had no packing in it - was 125dB or so at the sound check :-)).

Last static check it was 105db (oct)
2 months before it was 101 (July)

It's got a big bore Race manifold & sports cat

Last year, when Craig was at MMC, he took my ECU & posted it back to Lotus.
They said they couldnt reprogramme my S2 Exige one as it was an early one - so sent it back to me.
In the end, Hangar 111 did it - they had a wee bit of bother, but managed to unlock it.

KennyT has a stage 3 on his Exige S. He'll be able to tell you noise figures but I think it's in the 100-105dB ball park....

Likely to be a bit noisier than just the stage 3 though, with that big bore manifold on there.

From experience of it on Elaine's old car, they are not quiet. You not get the 2Bular repacked?

It's probably more of a get out clause if you wend up being fined... I don't know anyone who ever has been...

"Modified exhaust systems
It’s illegal to modify the exhaust system to make a vehicle noisier after it has been ‘type approved’ (checked it meets environmental and safety standards).
The police can also take action if your vehicle’s silencer doesn't work in the way it was designed or if you’re driving in a way that creates too much noise."

As Sanjoy said, Kenny's is bordering on uncomfortable for much road use- louder would not be a good thing!

As above, a bit too loud for sustained road use, although quieter at 85/90 than than 70

Last static test was Oulton and read 98db at 6000 RPM, drive by at Donington was 98.8db resulting in black flag.
It's just been in at CMC and he said the packing was starting to break up a little so that will add a bit of noise.

I think a non-standard manifold plus the stage 3 would be too far for me and quite restrictive on track, even with my set up of a trd airbox I will get a quieter back box next time to possibly allow a freer flowing cat but still be within track limits.

Sports cat & a blown 2bular.
Craig is fitting the new Janspeed back box this coming week

Static noise test was 101, then it went up to 104
Got black flagged at Donning ton
Interesting to see what it will be like
