S1 Seat Options ?
S1 Seat Options ?
Can anyone offer me some advice on alternative seats for my S1 111s? Current seats are red leather, standard issue and looking a bit tired. I want to find a set that are as comfortable as possible, as I will be doing some long runs in the car (one of which will be Le Mans next year hopefully), so I don't want any super lightweight race seats/shells. Harness holes not needed either (but not bothered if they have them). From what I've read thus far my options seem to be as follows:
1) recover existing seats ......£900-£1200 (no improvement in comfort here though)
2) Buy a set of 2nd hand Probax Exige seats (assuming they come up for sale somewhere)........£1200-£1500 (is there any comfort improvement with these?)
3) Buy Corbeau or other aftermarket ones ...............£800-£1500 (which ones are most comfortable?)
As always, thanks in advance for any help/advice you guys can offer.....

Re: S1 Seat Options ?
The 111s seats are I think the same as the S2 which are regarded as being more comfortable than most. Probax may provide an improvement but there are some mixed reviews in relation to them. I haven't tried the Probax seats.
If you're not living on the edge you're wasting too much space!
Re: S1 Seat Options ?
Don't mistake probax seats for the seats with harness holes; probax is the type/brand name of padding in 06 Model year onwards seats. Ones from an elise or exige with or without harness holes will have this. Some find it comfier, some don't.
The s1 111S seats have padding whereas the standard seats don't, but there is a difference in seat shell between S1 & S2. Not sure what difference it makes. The corbeau seats fitted to the S1 Sport 135 always got good press, but not sure if that was only in comparison to the unpadded standard seats.
Lotus have some NOS vx220 seats for sale at Motorsport auctions, not sure if they're an improvement? https://www.motorsportauctions.com/inde ... tegory=301

The S1 seats had a deeper bucket

Re: S1 Seat Options ?
So my current 111's seats have "extra" padding already...incredible? The basic ones must be really basic. Might have to get a seat in Doms car next time I see him....I think it's got the Corbeau ones in it...
Thanks woody....called them and they're all gone. That would have been a good option too...

Re: S1 Seat Options ?
Yeah - I used standard S1 seats daily for years. And there's not a lot of meat on my arse... Even when new(ish), the half inch of foam inside the leather seat pad did the square root of f*ck all.
So painful in the end I actually modded them with some Sparco seat inserts that fitted from their rally seat replacement stuff.

Welcome to try mine out. I find them pretty decent - improved since I fitted new padding from Corbeau.marcoos_1 wrote:So my current 111's seats have "extra" padding already...incredible? Re: S1 Seat Options ?
Dom are your seats not the same as 111s seats, which are the same as S2 seats but were only fitted to special models prior to going mainstream in the S2???

Re: S1 Seat Options ?
I've got 111S seats in mine (from new, it was an option on the later 160ies), but they're definitely different to the S2 seats, especially in the headrest area?Stephen wrote:Dom are your seats not the same as 111s seats, which are the same as S2 seats but were only fitted to special models prior to going mainstream in the S2???
Re: S1 Seat Options ?
My 160 has thicker squabs like the S2 but I have the funky ribbed back

Mine are different to the 111s seats. They have a Velcro fixed pads from the base to shoulder height.
Re: S1 Seat Options ?
Cheers Dom.....would you say that these are your seats?

That's them!
I think you can buy direct from Corbeau. I bought my replacement pads direct from them.

Re: S1 Seat Options ?
I have Corbeau inserts too. They've been great. Need to refresh mine too actually. Got the reorder detail, Dom?
I fitted the inserts after removing the standard, ineffectual insert sections many years back. Against my grey cloth seats, they've looked and felt great.
