Re: Brexit.
Sorry but Ive not seen racism.
As pointed out in this thread Id rather have 10 skilled workers that have been deemed an asset to society as opposed to 10 randoms who have decided themselves that they want to come. The randoms may be good but equally they may not and why shouldn’t the government we voted for be able to control this?
Is that racist??
I have an American VISA which I had to jump through hoops to get, are they racist?
Honestly all I hear today is, Were buggered blah blah blah, who we gonna blame?, lets have another indy ref, Scotland is right and were taken against our will, bollock bollocks bollocks.
Decision is made, we are still British, lets get on with it.

I would be as well coming out and admitting that I am a racist, homophobic, xenophobic piece of sh*t - because my so called friends and family (mostly on Facebook) have made it quite clear that anyone stupid enough to vote leave is clearly all of these things (or worse).
Makes me sad to be fair. All of a sudden the vocal and toxic masses are turning on their "own" and acting in the very same way as they are accusing others of doing. Frightening really. My wife and I had our own reasons for voting as we did. We aren't students - I don't think we are stupid (several degrees and good jobs between us hopefully knock that one on the head) - and we had considered discussions with each other based on the information which we researched and we believed was important to us.
Clearly, Morag and I are now the most evil human beings in the whole world. Nobody wants to be our friends, nobody wants to do business with us - and clearly the world is about to end and it is my fault.
Its madness. I try to see the best in people (something which appears to have completely evaporated from the remain camp today) and I like to think I can see the positives in any given situation. My wife and I are not hugely political - we haven't really followed any campaigns and we don't sit at home every night debating high-brow politics. But,.... given that change is going to happen (the one certainty we have from today) - is it not best if we all try to move forward and make the most of the opportunity? (no emphasis on positive or negative opportunity inferred).
Nuts. I feel ashamed, embarrassed, sad and annoyed. Not because of the choice that I made - but because of the way society wants me to feel now. And sadly I think that they have completely missed the point.
Re: Brexit.
I echo many of the sentiments in the few posts above. It happened - let's deal with it without the name calling and slurs against people who might have different views.
The (almost certainty) of Indyref2 is much more concerning to me and I do think there is a strong likelihood it would be won on a knee jerk reaction to last nights surprise result. I dread to think where that would put us but now just trying to roll with the punches as the reality is its here's no point in fretting over any of it.

Re: Brexit.
I was in a similar position to Craig in that I could see good reasons for being both in and out of the EU. I did a little hunting to get some considered opinions for both sides but it was pretty difficult to get much that was meaningful. I think it's clear from both this and the Scottish referendum that there's an appetite for political reform across the board and I would rather that we'd remained and made significant changes. Unfortunately, that wasn't an option on the ballot paper (well, it was but the inference was that remaining would mean broadly keeping things how that are).
I can't agree more - we are where we are and we now have to get on and make the best of it. Blame, name-calling, etc. is pointless. It's going to be a bit of a roller coaster as we've no real idea of what the future holds but I hope we have an opportunity to shape it.

As it has been shown the electorate are willing to believe in the magic money tree
Though
The fact that the economy is circling the drain due to brexit might put some weight behind the argument that a country with no currency and a massive deficit won't be in a good place.
But i think the SNP plan on turning scotland into a international doley by relying on EU handouts instead of UK handouts

Re: Brexit.
I was referring to racism playing a role in people decision, not on SE. I'm not sure if that was clear.r10crw wrote:Sorry but Ive not seen racism.
I applaud those of us capable of adopting a "let's move on" attitude, it's only been slightly over 6 hours! I'll get there eventually - certainly, I'm the sort of person who will work to make it better rather than stand and say I told you so. For now, I'm just miffed as to why anyone voted leave.

Re: Brexit.
I don't think there's been open "racism" on display, as the vast majority of people rightly see this as repugnant, but there is a strong "them and us" current that runs through many of those than wanted out of the EU.. Same thing was prevalent in our own Indy ref.

Brexit.
I have never made any racism comments not believe anything discussed here was that.
There is a difference between nationalism which I see displayed here, both British and Scottish. The opinions of what that entails differ.
My concerns are still the same, which is the re-emergence of the far right and the deep seated hatrid that insights.
The big difference here is the political parties are themselves divided, how that shapes over the coming weeks and months. Reserving comment till I see what happens.
Serious rethink on what we do life, family and business.

I'm currently in China, the government here seems quite tolerant and liberal compared to the majority in the UK at the moment............
