Joiner recommendations - West Lothian

Post by douglasgdmw » Mon Aug 22, 2016 9:57 am

Just wondering whether anyone can recommend any joiners in West Lothian area (or Edinburgh area willing to travel 7 miles out).

My hinge on my timber garage door has broken and need some assistance getting it sorted out. I have tried a couple of the garage door companies but majority just want to fit new doors rather than fix, others I have left numerous messages for an have had no reply.

So I have managed to get the hinges etc for the garage doors and looking for someone who will be able to fit them to the door and the stone work on the house.

George

Ps I am absolutely rubbish at handwork so not wanting to tackle myself !!!

Hi Douglas,

Post it up on mybuilder.com and let interested tradespeople chase you for the job.

I've used this many, many times now for various trades and it's absolutely fantastic. You can also check out feedback so it's not just a random stab in the dark with who you chose to go with.

Depends massively on location, mybuilder.com. Central Edinburgh or Glasgow, I can see it being excellent - enough traffic to make it work. But even when we lived in Ayr - not exactly the middle of nowhere - there was little response to couple of requests we posted - usual tradesman issues with more work than tradespeople the second you go outside a city. There does seem to be an inflated quote culture on it as well - got some really good builders in the end through personal recommendation who wouldn't touch it and quoted far less directly - again, traffic in a city might well drive that down.

Can't hurt trying, mind you.

I know I don't post much on here, but when I did a few years ago looking for a joiner fellow form member Ian Lindsay, point n squirt being his user name, did some work for me and I can thoroughly recommend both him and his work. Perhaps he is too far away from you, being based in Hamilton, but it might be worth giving him a pm?

Ian,

Thanks for the update, unfortunately its a bit difficult trying to find these types of people unless its word of mouth as always a bit wary about letting unknown people into your house.

If you have any contacts close to me then would appreciate it, know it may be a small job for someone with experience but was happy to pay a reasonable rate as I understand it has to be worth peoples time.
