Any SE'ers tackle the SCX Race 1 at Callander Park on Sunday ? Fantastic course and the weather gods were definitely smiling down on us
Up until know I have been a dedicated roadie but this was so much fun I have already signed up the Race 2 on Sun 23rd Oct at Knockburn Loch, Aberdeenshire.

No, a few of us had scheduled a ride around Arran at the weekend so I did that instead or I'd have been over to watch - fitness is way off just now so didn't want to enter. However I have, along with a couple of others on here, entered HalloX on the 29th October. Should be able to hide my lack of fitness/fatness better in the dark.

Saw it was on as drove past. What's the rules with these. How long a course? Is it as many laps as you can in the time?

Fancy a go myself.

Races are by age category so Male Seniors, Vet 40-49 and Super Vet 50+ plus female and junior categories. The races are set times so Senior men race for 1 hour, Vet is 40 minutes. Over 600 riders signed up for SCX1 at Callander Park at the weekend. That venue is also used for the National XC Championship.

I was Vet 50 and finished 35th out of 80 starters so happy with that giving I only bought the bike last Thursday
So the leader gets the bell when the organisers decide based on lap times that he will cross the finish line after 40 minutes.
If you have been lapped and have passed the finish line (which does happen) then you finish the lap you are currently on.
If you get caught by the leader and passed as he crosses the line then you can stop.
For this event I completed 6 laps, then winner was 7. Each lap was about 1.5 miles.

That all makes sense and very similar to when I did motocross hare and hound races, they were 3 hours with 3 - 5 mile laps, first one I did I only managed 1 lap. The leaders were doing 12 -15 laps.

9 miles in 40 minutes is pretty good going on grass, that's about my road pace.

The place looks amazing.

If only you has asked, ciclomontana is by far the superior guide of the Seirra Nevadas.
That said, i have been three times and would go back in a heart bike, amazing riding...

So, sweepstake, for how many hours you last before the air ambulance comes to get you? i say.. 4hrs will but a £5 on it.

I've only just started reading this thread and interesting to see all the mad keen cyclists on here.

I mainly mountain bike though I do like to dabble with the dark side too

I would absolutely second the opinion that CicloMontana are brilliant - I've been out to the Alpujarras quite a few times now and these guys show you some great trails, epic days out and just simply sublime riding. Valetta pass will stick in my memory for a long time, an 11 out of 10 kind of day. I think the riding is a bit more 'pedally' than the other outfits but plenty uplift too. Back out there again next year

Paid my deposit to go see Marco and Jackie again in sept. My group have gone 2-3 times a year since he started up!

Brilliant, I have similar photos of our group have been out tho only 3 of made the true summit of Valletta, what a day that is, the descent down to those threshing stones and beyond were mega, I remember following closely on Marco's heals, he was buzzing too and yep that boy can ride.

Elephants tail indeed, switchbacks galore. Cool place

Has anyone ridden Val Gardena? I'm thinking about it for next year, stunning scenery and sounds like a good mix of trails. Also would be up for an SE MTB ride in the Aberdeen area if anyone fancies it, seems like there's a good few riders on here.
