I'd take a 410 over a Porsche no question, but I would struggle with parting with that much £ to do so. I would save £20k and get a 400 or hold off for a couple of years to see what the 2020 Elise offers.

PS - there is something wrong with the official specs.

Peak torque of 302 lbs.ft at 3.5krpm

But to make 410bhp at 7000 rpm requires you to be making over 307lbs.ft of torque.

410ps and so slightly fewer HP?

Not sure why the Evora is regarded as overweight when the last Esprits weighted around the same iirc. And I'm pretty sure the Evora is a good step on in all regards.

Still can't stand the look of the 400/410 though, although the latter us an improvement.

Official stats are 416PS / 410bhp.

Be honest, you would by the Evora with it's 'Lotus' build quality and backup over Porsche to use as your only car for everyday use?

No, no chance.

As said, the problem here is it's not a track car, it's a road car, so all the bull about downfarce, lightweight (chortle!), etc are irrelevant, what is relevant is ride quality, reliability, usability, cost of ownership, etc etc etc.

Realistically, the choice of cars under £85K is huge.

I'm definitely with Keith, for that money I wouldn't buy a Carrera, (and definitely not an understeering Audi) I'd definitely go 410. As great as the Porsche cars are and they are great cars, I have considered the Cayman on two occasions in the past but I ended up in a Lotus on both occasions.

Nothing quite feels like a Lotus, and while that isn't enough for most people it is for me.

Plenty of us have run an evora as an everyday car. Ive done 18k in mine.

As above: Lotus forum & yes I would. I am a Lotus fan boy
I use an Evora probably 80% of the time anyway & have had very few problems and backup hasn't been an issue.
There are horror stories around servicing and reliability for many brands, Porsche included.
I could maybe be tempted by a Cayman (although never driven one) but an F type Jag or McLaren would both be on the radar before Porsche if the budget was north of £80k .

Horses for courses. 911 offers 4 seats for the kids and glacial depreciation in comparison. Also at that level of coin I look at the dealer network and stability of the company in the background. Don't get me wrong OPC support is far from stellar. But that's just me.

I swapped a Porsche for the Evora and have done 20k in the last 2 years with it as my daily.

Less niggles and issue with the Evora than I had with the Porsche or the VW Golf I had before that too.

Give me Lotus build quality every day !!
