Speak to Craig - he'll guide you.
Craig really helped out with me and owe him many thanks. My ex 111R was written off CAT B. I bought the car for 14k and got 16.5k off the insurance. Sadly being a young un' the insurance premium is what put me out of Lotus ownership for now.

Out of curiosity I put my Ranger on we buy and they offered £14k which is £7k less than trade in value.
With the R8 it was even worse, £20k less than the cheapest V10+ in the country.

I guess some people must use them? Maybe simply to get rid? Suppose not everyone cares about residuals =8-o

That is what they offer online Mike.

If you want a laugh and have an hour to spare, take it in, if David at Elgin is anything to go by it is worth the experience. Ended up at 66% of their quoted figure with all of that on the bodywork, never even started it up or even turned the ignition on, so missed that the SATNAV was not working, warning lights were on, HID headlight was dead, and clutch was on its last legs.

That is how they try and reel you in Mark. Makes no difference until you take it in.

Assessor makes his commission on how much he can get the buying price down from the online quote.

Just put the Volvo Motability car through.

Retail price was £39,950, 5K miles, 10 months old, new condition, £23,390 offered.

Same car and spec on PH £35,500.

WBAC are pretty clear about their business model. The chipping down when you get to the inspection is a total pain, though.

Fact is, it must work. They aren't short of takers for their service. So, if they are buying lots of cars, they must be offering enough to enough people. Obviously, a service designed to take the hassle out of the process isn't going to get close to what you could sell a car privately on Pistonheads for. Looks like they've nailed it - there clearly are plenty of people wanting to write off lots of cash to avoid having to sell or trade.

Utter waste of time going to them for any sort of valuation unless you are utterly desperate or don't think your car will sell privately.

My S2 was written off in Jan two years ago and the first offer from the insurance was under £10k for a 54 plate 111S with about 56k miles. A few offers later and I got just under £14k.

I thought WBAC are only really interested in Golf/Focus etc, and are pretty close on the value of everyday cars??

After two years that's me just back in a Lotus, and it seems like a well known Lotus from having a recent nosy on the forum! :D

Think you might have passed me on the M8 last Friday about 16.40, I was just pulling on to the motorway from the airport when a blue Evora went past?

As for WBAC, never had an offer anywhere near the value of selling private or trade in.

At cinema last week Evans Halshaw had an advert, maybe 60 seconds, saying trade in with us for a better deal then WBAC.

For £4-5K family boxes i think WBAC aren't too far off trade in deals or private sale, though for specialist cars etc , a waste of time .

Yes, that would have be me. Though I did park next to a daytona blue sports racer at Braehead the other week.

Sounds like WBAC taking the piss so that they can still 'buy any car' ?

I guess that their staff who inspect the cars may not know what to look for with something more specialist...
'16 MINI Cooper S - Family fun hatch
'98 Lotus Elise - Fun day car
'04 Maserati Coupe GT - Manual, v8, Italian...
'18 Mazda Mx5 - The wife's, so naturally my daily
'19 Ducati Monster 797 - Baby bike bike

Have you had a price to repair the car ?
Two negatives make a positive but only in Scotland do two positives make a negative - 'Aye right.'
