Selling your car to a overseas buyer

Post by haggis catcher » Thu Feb 16, 2017 8:02 pm

Hi everyone
I have a chap from France who wishes to buy my Elise. However this would be new to me, as I have only ever sold within the UK. Where would be the best place to get a COC for the Car? On sales of the car do I just send the document to DVLA saying that the car has been exported. All advice would be greatly received.

Regards
Stew

You can get the c.o.c from Lotus or he can get it himself later by emailing them and they charge about £100. I think there is an export part to the v5c. When I sold mine I gave the buyer the full document and just wrote a letter to the dvla to say it had been bought and driven to Europe by the new owner.

I have emailed Lotus Certificates and had no reply. Are they normally like this? I wish they had a telephone number so I can chase them up.

I have a deposit on the Elise. So its almost really sold and the buyer is arriving from France on the 10th of March.
Im also selling one of my bikes as i dont use that either. However I still have another bike and the wife's SLK to use for the summer days.
