ERm is that right? Does it not mean that what cost you £1 to buy in 2007 will now cost you £1.27 thanks to inflation and if it was 2.7% a year then that needs to be compounded and not just simply multiplied by ten.
I bow to the BoE on this one to be fair.
I think if you follow that link you will see that my explanation is correct but I do not want to be pedantic about it. It is not saying what £1 is worth it is saying what the goods or services £1 would have BOUGHT you at that point in time, compared to now, after inflation, is worth. That is different to saying £1 then is worth £1.27 now. It is actually what would have COST you £1 then would now COST you £1.27 on average thanks to inflation.

How the inflation calculator works
Our inflation calculator works for amounts between £1 and £1,000,000,000,000 (£1 trillion).

For example, imagine you want to know what goods and services costing £23.60 in 1975 would have cost in 1985:

The price index for 1975 = 134.8
The price index for 1985 = 373.2

The calculator increases the cost in 1975 by the change in prices between 1975 and 1985 with this formula:

Cost in 1985 = Cost in 1975 x (1985 price index / 1975 price index)

£65.33 = £23.60 x (373.2 / 134.8)

So the cost in 1985 of the same goods and services has risen to £65.33.

Would it be possible for the mods to remove the offending comments from the "quoted" entries too please? Thanks

This is one of those threads I'd normally ignore, but in an attempt to bring it back to the friendly banter style I'd expect on SE

Fast forward to 7:50 to watch Nicola being put on the spot about the rates increase at the Banff springs hotel.

It does worry me that the leader of a minority government believes so passionately that on something as fundamental and earth shattering as independence she so firmly believes she is speaking for the majority in Scotland! Baffles me too really.

Also, why are they not being held to account. This is what they said about their performance in the years from 2007 to 2016 in their own manifesto headlines before the 2016 election. Do we really believe the hype and spin here and do we really believe, based on our own experiences and those of our friends, family and children that services are better after 10 years of this government?

Re-Elect the SNP (Scottish National Party). Since 2007 things have been better for every home in Scotland because of the SNP Government.
We have:
• changed education for the better
• supported the Health Service
• made changes to policing
• taken employment levels to a record high
• built thousands of affordable homes

We have spent money to modernise our schools, colleges and universities.

We have also made some of the biggest transport improvements the country has ever seen.

We have always planned to build a country where strong public services are supported by a successful economy.
Yes, we are proud of our record, but we know there is still a lot more to do. With your support we can build on the good work we have done
over the past nine years.

On Independence they said this:
We believe that the Scottish Parliament should have the right to hold another referendum if it is clear that more than half of the
people in Scotland want independence.

Last I looked and heard there still is not more than half of the population in Scotland clamouring and wanting Independence. So why is it the one broken record we hear about week in week out. The one rallying call. The one thing that is "threatened" to all - so much for the enlightened new type of political system not based on fear and threats. Every speech is a threat from her....

A move towards state owned energy infrastructure is bad because... actually don't, I have become rather disinterested in the repetitive nature of your diatribe.
