There are a few avertised in Autotrader and I didn't think it looked toobad price wise. My mate looked at a 111S too, 51k miles and a year younger but 12 grand which seemed a lot to me. This seemed better.

HGF would appear to be related to alot of things. I have read that some last 90k+. I wouldn't be worried about it, even if it does go they are simple enough to change and you will be very unlucky to cause much damage if you keep an eye on your water level and oil for gunk. Water lolss needs to be diagnosed quickly before damage can occur.
The head gasket failure is normally down to the rubber seal between the oilways and the water jacket going pop. simple fix. The head I gave away 3 months ago (Low port, no cams, springs, caps or valves!) showed exactly this in 2 places. It was just the rubber hadcome away from the metal of the gasket. No big problem if caught.
Head gasket ~£35, cam belt and tensioner while you are there too ~£30-50, 5-8 hours or so for 3 numpties, one tolerant wife, a toddler and 2 mental collies.

Back when I had an MGF VVC - several years ago, the HG went at about 65K, put sum rad-weld in it and kept toping up the water for about 5K
When it got really bad (more water than petrol) I changed the HG and did another £20Kish in it before selling it in good running - fully MOT'd - order.
Access was a bit of a PIA but the job was easy enough. Elise should be easier since you can take off the clam and get full access.
These Ks just go on and on!!
