GT86 pretty high on my list once the GTI goes but I am getting old so fancy another barge full of toys alongside Lotus.

I know you've had an MR2 before Mark, but consider the mk3 MR2 if you haven't already.

A sort of sharper, mid-engine MX-5 if you will. Same average looks and hairdryer operative comments of course! You can pick up a decent later spec version for £3k now, and I honestly they give 90% of the handling feel of the Elise / VX220 but are much more liveable day to day.

If you need a bit more power, the 2ZZ-GE engine (111R) swap is a fairly common one.

I'm looking for a flash sportscar that I can track lol.... :thumbsup

Whos had an E92 M3? What like? I could probably get one of these if I also sold the 3 series Diesel too. wife could use this daily and I could track/euro trip it......

Mot fussed for the MK3 MR2, looks like its trying to be a boxster, I'd just buy a boxster? I prefer the SW20 MR2 (just my age I guess) GT86 again does nothing for me, not special enough to have sitting outside the house for occasional use, possibly if I needed a daily driver but I have the 1 series for work. At the minute I have the options on a very nice 111s and possible 111R, the R is E92 M3 money though? :? I have a soft spot for the E46 but the thought of a 8500rpm V8 is apealing although I'd not expect many miles to the gallon lol, sub 20 I'm thinking on either M3? Track costs will undoubtedly be high on brakes and tyres/servicing that and the thought of the wife bouncing it of kerbs does make me wince... But residuals are strong, an E46 is on the rise as are all Lotus currently.. So again full circle back to Lotus lol.... VX is a contender but I think I prefer the looks of the Elise, Boxster S still on the radar too.. What a sh*t problem to have! I'm pretty indecisive with stuff like this and what ever I get will no doubt be the wrong choice and bankrupt me  Hopefully not though..

Appreciate all the input guys! :cheers

Been through very similar thought process almost every waking (and sleeping moment) of my life !

I know a guy who may be selling a supercharged VX in edin. Worth a look?

If you ever fancy a closer look at a vx and you're out Doune way your welcome to have a look round/run out in mine. I used to prefer the looks of the Elise but the longer I've had the vx the more I prefer it. Much rarer than the Elise too!

I have a mk3 mr2 ATM, they really do handle exceptionally well, worth a test drive.

I'm looking to get back into a lotus by the summer and looking at vx220's just now but think I'll ultimately end up back in an s1.

Good luck with the hunt :)

Mark. Review your budget very carefully. Very carefully indeed. It's just a guess, but if you want to run - and track - an M3, it's going to cost you dear.

We've had many a debate in here about "one car to do it all". We generally conclude there is no such thing and that a good value family barge plus cheap simple lightweight sports car is the answer :-)

Be real. Do your numbers. If prestige is what you seek - and why not! - then you will not do this on the cheap.

PS. Do not let the missus drive it. Sorted.

What about a 350/370z? I don't know too much about them?

I had an E90 M3 alongside my trusty E90 330i. It was certainly very quick, but imo felt a bit over-complicated and precious. The suspension and engine mode buttons could completely change the character of the car, but still left me feeling it was not a sensible thing as daily driver. 95% of the time I preferred the 330i for regular use. Intention was to replace 330i with the M3, but I ended up keeping the 6 cyl and selling the V8 after a couple of months. Never tracked the M3, but I suspect it would be pretty good if you can cope with the cost of brakes and tyres.......

Lovely, reliable, characterful cars which are very good value, but really nothing like a small sports car - more of a small GT / big sports car.

And they are relatively thirsty and expensive on RT post-2006 (I've had two).

Some of the reasons I went for a M135i rather than an early E92 M3. A more usable everyday prospect, although it doesn't quite have the handling edge I'd like when pushing on..

That's sort of what I thought, closer to an E36 M3 than a Boxster, or maybe more like a Japanese muscle car, but cheaper than either, with low servicing costs and no engine issues??
