Has anybody changed their vote about independence??
Re: Has anybody changed their vote about independence??
Or being held to account for having to actually do stuff, like you know, govern! They don't even use all the powers they have and on day after the A50 letter all we are hearing is how Westminster is going to steal powers! FFS, I don't think the current Tory Government could be ore clear in the fact that their view is to keep the union together Holyrood gets more power. It really is about time the press started to actually earn their money and put some real effort in to questioning this nonsense that they are just blindly pedalling.

Re: Has anybody changed their vote about independence??
Hollyrood has not passed a Bill since April 2016.
Apparently they have debated Independence for 42% of the time and Education ( judge me on my record on Education) 10%.
Either way the day job is being neglected in the pursuit of what we all, apparently, want - Independence.
I love the Irony of Sturgeon signing the article 30 letter in a pose reminiscent on Margaret Thatcher.
I wait to see what her plan is when inevitably the article 30 request is kicked to the touch line - she does have a plan of action apparently

Re: Has anybody changed their vote about independence??
I am undecided if the constant bleating about FREEDDDUUUMMMBBBB at the expense of the good of scotland is either because
A it distracts from the harsh reality of actually running the country so they can wave the flag and get votes while blaming everything that goes wrong on the hated tories/english/westminster
or
B They actually think like that
However
There is another scary thought that the crashing of Scotland's economy as well as stirring up hate is a deliberate act. As it is driving people like us out of scotland and making people poor. If you are poorly educated and at rock bottom then you will buy into the its all englands fault message.
However
I do belive you should never see malice where sheer utter stupidity will bring the same results

Re: Has anybody changed their vote about independence??
A very wise old and excellent mentor of mine, once said a long long time ago in a company far far away that things like this are usually 90% cock-up and 10% conspiracy. Citing that in the most part leaders were too clever for their own good to do the right thing ( so 90% of the time it was cock-up) and not clever enough/as clever as they thought they were, to manipulate the situation efectively.
I do think, regardless of our individual politics, there should at least be a debate on just exactly WHAT Holyrood has delivered over the past 10 years and just how much of their current power they have actually exercised. What's the point of demanding more power when you don't use the power you already have to full effect.
Yest again, I am disappointed and saddened by the state of UK journalism that NO-ONE from the press is actually doing good, solid, informative, investigative journalism of quality to help to truly inform the masses like me. As an industry, they really should be ashamed and are sinking lower than I think anyone could ever have dreamt with their lazy, gutter press, approach to this.
I actually think the debate on here is turning. It is moving from party lines and entrenched views, to a questioning of what has been done, and what will be done. I hope nationally this is how we move too over the coming months.

Re: Has anybody changed their vote about independence??
I would like to know what the SNP have planned for the DVLA situation if they were to get their obsessive wish, would we be able to keep private plates for example, who do they belong to?, would they have to set up a brand new Scottish DVLA, that would cost a fortune, how would it all work, would DVLA share info?, how costly would vehicle excise duty be under SNP!, quite a massive subject with a whole heap of questions needing answers but nobody seems to be giving it much mention, the SNP in particular.
Re: Has anybody changed their vote about independence??
This question can be asked regarding many established government bodies such as passport office, NHS, DWP, emergency services, and the list goes on through all the civil service etc....

Re: Has anybody changed their vote about independence??
All pertinent questions and all going to take several years to set up, in the meantime I would imagine the agencies would add a 'small fee' to each and every transaction for the citizens of a newly created Scotland. Just more costs we will be required to pay for the privilege of satisfying the SNP dream

You do know they have had full control of the NHS in Scotland since 1997.rossybee wrote:This question can be asked regarding many established government bodies such as passport office, NHS, DWP, emergency services, and the list goes on through all the civil service etc....
But any issues ar still due to England.

Re: Has anybody changed their vote about independence??
What's the Westminster answer to this with regards to Europe?
Loads of stuff is run by the EU, what's happening in 2 years time?

I'm also keen to know re what the EU is actually running in the UK. I am not aware of anything. I am aware they do pay / contribute into things like farming, etc, but not what they actually run. Please do enlighten us, or, is this just another of those "fake news" type of trivia headline to get you to get you to click on something that isn't real?

Re: Has anybody changed their vote about independence??
Brexit must have actually been a godsend to the SNP, it gave them the excuse they needed.
But Scotland would have left the EU had it gained independence in 2014 - didn't seem to bother the SNP too much then, certainly not enough to forgo the independence vote!, but now its the worst thing that has ever happened.
The SNP were also making noises about a second referendum long before the conservatives got their majority thus setting the EU referendum date - so a second referendum was pretty much inevitable.
We'd be having exactly the same discussion today had the UK voted to remain in the EU - the SNP would have simply found another hook. They simply lack the capacity to respect a "No" vote.
How do they get away with such a monumental level of hypocrisy.

Yeah I wrote it as a throwaway but I only really know about my own stuff (without googling).j2 lot wrote:what 'stuff' is being run by EU?

The UK adopted SERA (Single European Rule of the Air) this year, well we were supposed to do it 2 years ago but we derogated until this year. This replaced the UK Air Navigation Order.
It legislates everything associated with aviation including licencing / training etc etc. Any changes are now done by EASA I guess?
But presumably we aren't in this from 2 years, I don't know of we have influence once we leave EU. I doubt it. Are we going to write UK legislation to replace it (it's quite a lot and we just had to do a lot of work to change to suit it). Probably. I don't really know if it even matters. So we'll be following a law that we don't control, will we need more staff in the CAA? Probably.
I genuinely don't have a clue what happens.

Re: Has anybody changed their vote about independence??
Without knowing much about the subject and it sounds as if we have regulated it in the past, I would imagine we revert to the previous model and / or subsume the EU regs as our own and then amend or reregulate as required.
The requirement for 'DVLA' in a newly independent Scotland is something of a different matter. Potentially all vehicles with a current UK registration to be reregistered for the new country, with a new system of vehicle identifiers and number plates, create a method of monitoring and regulation to maintain tax. Revise all current insurance details, hand back private plates ....... etc
Or hope rUK will be ok with us sharing the current system and don't charge 'us' huge amounts of £ or € to do it on behalf of the government of Scotland.
