That's an Exige, basically. Not floating my boat.

Must be why I like it, that and the fact I use to draw cars like that when I was a kid, it's just missing a whip aerial.

That is truly 'orrible, the complete antithesis of the original.

Nope, just nope! That looks so rice, designed by a 15 year old, there are even grills under the diffuser which itself looks flat? the front bonnet bulge looks utterly sh*t! the rear is OK but the lower section could use a redesign, whole thing looks heavy as loads of bits stuck on... no danger that will ever be sub 900KG, and it's a hard top so not really an elise but a baby exige? I hope Lotus themselves come up with something more in keeping with the original philosophy and keep the weight right down as that's what I miss having moved to Porsche from Lotus, the lightweight agility of the lotus really is something special they should hold onto...

My first thought was it looks like a low polygon render as if someone was trying to get some a job in game development.

Slight thread drift, but a 987 Boxster at 1295kg is lighter than an Evora and only marginally heavier than a S3 Exige. Given the cost and the complexity it begs the question why Lotus would persevere with the aluminium tub/fibreglass formula.
Granted, all are fatties in relation the the S1 Elise but modern regulations dictate that car isn't going to be built again.
As for this 2020 Elise, yes it's not the prettiest but as it's a mock up I'll take it with a large sprinkling of finest Maldon.

For Lotus volumes (and even at 5x current) the cost and complexity is a great deal less than pressed steel I'd wager.

Trust me my 1295KG 280bhp Boxster feels lardy in comparison to my 750Kg 135 bhp S2 Elise, I'd say the Lotus was every bit as fast in real world terms too, up to the legal limits and on track a good bit more nimble. The fact the S3 weighs so much says to me that Lotus were losing their focus on light weight and wanting to go premium, but the latest 17.5 MY cars seem to be addressing that and shifting some weight off again which is nice to see!

Surly the weight gain for the Exige and Evora come from the V6, and better quality / less spartan interiors though?
Wikipedia states an S3 Elise as 866kg - 914kg, which is presumably the aim for a new Elise (or lighter..)
'16 MINI Cooper S - Family fun hatch
'98 Lotus Elise - Fun day car
'04 Maserati Coupe GT - Manual, v8, Italian...
'18 Mazda Mx5 - The wife's, so naturally my daily
'19 Ducati Monster 797 - Baby bike bike
