Bemani SC
Ohlins
LSD
Brakes – larger AP discs and RS 4-2 Pagid pads
2bular zaust and soon de-cat pipe

Dont seem to have my options in the poll

Ohlins were the best buy. Love being able to play with the settings and set the car up for the conditions. Plans fitted 375/425 F/R springs, which gave a biased balance towards understeer. I have since changed to 425/500s just about right. I made the front softer in comparison to the rear which means the car is now much more neutral. The LSD did not help matters but now the car is balanced it works and does not ‘push’ the car on like it did. Not sure why Plans went for only 50lbs between front and 75 or more seems to be the norm
Brake wise had some issue with a set of 14s, moved to 42s don’t like the less aggressive bite but they were great at Rockingham.

Bemani – really impressed with the way it was fitted and had had no issues. The kit uses a larger SC than the 240 so with a bit of internal engine work and a change of pulleys it could be nuts. I intend to fit the Emerald and put some larger injectors in the engine to free it up a bit (loosen up the tight emissions based settings and top end). My one bug bare with the Bemain is that they did not change the cam change over point - fixed with the Emerald.
The driving experience is drastically changed from that of the standard engine – its all about the torque and that’s what you remember. I have actually started to adjust the way I drive taking corners in higher gears and it does make faster progress.

How would I do it again?
When I bought the car it was my everyday drive with the odd TD. It slowly became more focused TD car and not my daily drive. If I were to start a gain I would get a good chassi and build my car up to a S1 motorsports body with SCed Honda power big brakes etc.

Big thumbs up to 2bular for making the rocket launcher.

I love my car but it needs a little less weight and it would be a beast. But to do that you start to take things like Ac out and it really does become a TD/race car. I guess I am on the edge between extreme road car and out and out TD car.

Love my car really looking forward to taking it to a few further afield circuits next year.

As far as I can tell, my route is a fairly unique one (thanks to having another engine that went pop and left me with some expensive addons)

Basically, it's a lightly ported (by the previous owner) VVC K series, that showed 167bhp on emerald's rollers with a decent zorst and induction kit.

I've added an emerald and throttle bodies from the last engine. DVA is of the opinion that I should be around the 185+ bhp mark (although to date, I haven't had it on the rollers)

AFAIK, there is only one other car like this in the UK and that's a race only car down south. Reasons? I guess when you spend the money on TB's and Emerald, you're looking for over 185 bhp...

That said, this engine is much more tractable and usable than the old one ever could have been. The VVC cams are limited in lift, but the valves are physically bigger than the ones I had fitted to the old engine and the port shapes are just so much better than you could ever get out of a standard head. That combined with the variable valve timing means that it just drives like a standard car (in good health) up to the point that the standard K starts to wheeze, where this one just keeps building to the redline.

Great engine - long may it last. Only way I'd upgrade would be to a Honda or RST - switching this head to solid cams and going more brutal with the tune would just kill the low down torque and shove the power up into the stratosphere - great on track, but it's soo much more usable (and quicker) on the road, the way it is.

Sorry to those whose tailored options aren't in the Poll options :-( I knocked it out kind of quickly, focusing on engine tweaks.

Jamie, I think you would technically come under nice filter / exhaust, but I could maybe have added an option to mention suspension too! Sounds like you really know what you are doing. Respec.

Shug, I think you are in Stage 3 territory somewhere, probably edging towards stage 4 with the head design!

There's no option for Tuned VHPD, so I selected stage 4...

What I like? cheap, light, keep the car with the original bits, and the tractability from 5K to 8.5K

Don’t like? all the polemic around the K tuning subject.
Ah, and the PG1, the thing doesn’t like abuse, the synchromesh rings wear quickly.

What would I like ideally? An RX-8 Renesis (and would like to get a personalized plate that says WANKEL) :P
