But volume means depreciation.... so by the time it’s depreciated enough you won’t be allowed a dirty ICE car

Re: Lotus teaser/launch update link
I read it was still going to be based on a variant of the current Exige/Evora/Elise chassis

Re: Lotus teaser/launch update link
Isn't the cheapest 911 now £100k? Bit strong for a base Lotus or top end for that matter.

You’ll be allowed it but will have to scour the country for a fuel source as the petrol stations will start to disappear once ICE sales stop

Re: Lotus teaser/launch update link
Basic 911 without extras is £84k.
Remember going in to Murrays and seeing a Lotus (430gt?) with a £121k price tag on it.

Re: Lotus teaser/launch update link
Kinda splitting hairs, nobody ever bought a 911 without any options on it. But even at £84k for a base model is extremely ambitious.

Re: Lotus teaser/launch update link
Yes but we need to get away from this idea that an Elise was ever an "affordable" car (which i've seen with other rose tinted glasses in several places recently).
When i first looked at an Elise (late 1997) it was £27K which was about the same as a Boxster (again without options) and the first TT - they were both about £29k
I paid (IIRC) about £46k for my Cup220 in 2015, they current Boxster starts at £45k 6 years later.

Re: Lotus teaser/launch update link
Where are these base prices coming from? The range I have seen is the entry level 4-pot turbo at around £50-55k, the V6 at £85k+. So the base model is £50-55, not £84k.

The reply was to Scotts post about an evo article stating prices were to start at 911 money. All the prices being bandied about are speculation, nobody has come out and said the base model will be £xxx.c8rkh wrote: ↑Sun May 02, 2021 10:34 pmWhere are these base prices coming from? Re: Lotus teaser/launch update link
Matt Windle of Lotus stated that "we are between Cayman and 911, but much closer to Cayman" when discussing pricing with Car Magazine. So to me, that does not translate to an £84k starting price, though I do accept that could be the entry price for the V6 variant, but more a £50-55k price - I believe the cheapest bog standard Cayman is £45k but guess no one would ever buy one without visiting the extensive options list.
The point I was responding to was the negativity that I perceived being generated by an £84k starting price for the new car. That would be a mahoosive jump for Lotus given the majority of the cars sold new in the past 10 years were probably in the £40 - £80k range with Elises and Exiges, with the car prices rocketing north with the 410/430 variants.
