It’s taking an absolute beating, front cover ripped open through the night but it’s tied back down now. If it survives the next few days I will be very impressed.

I was going to get the rust off and see how much metal is left first. But plans were cold galvanise then epoxy mastic or similar.

Would be interested in the zinc plating, did you get any costs?

I didn't, think Stephen Curle knows the costs though, it's not huge. I'd spoken to a place in Paisley who would blast the front wishbones for £50.

Hadn't considered galvanising thought, will have a look at it. Plans were also an epoxy paint system on top of that, had a look at Jota marine paints.

I’ve used aquablast Paisley in the past for a bike frame, seems to be the least destructive means of stripping back to metal.

I use Jota on stuff offshore, would be ideal in this scenario. On mild steel I’ve used a cold galvanise spray as a primer which provides a cathodic protection then epoxy over. Lasts years in permanently salty wet conditions.

Getting the rear lower o/s wishbone off not going to plan, the last bolt is blocked by the oil sump. So it’s sump off to remove…

they'll still come up looking nice, are you getting them chemically stripped and zinc passivate plated? - I did this with mine and then two coats of clear PIR15. There's lots of theories about what is the best protective coating, but powder coating on wishbones isn't considered a good one as the water gets into the chips caused by stones and causes the coating to flake off.

Agree about aquablast being a good idea.

Bits all blasted, left the wheel bearings in to protect the inners, all being replaced anyway.

Got a price to zinc coat at £50 per wishbone plus the other bits so that’s not happening.



Also Nitron came back with £1250 to refurb, mainly due to the springs being knackered but the rest is okay. Just going to buy a new set, makes more sense.

£50 a wishbone is... Quite a lot. Elise parts have new wishbones at £125 each.

That’s what I was expecting, maybe up to £175 with all the smaller bits.

Got the impression he didn’t want the work, first thing he said was why don’t you get them powder coated

Elise has been put on hold for the last few months due to garage build so I can get it out of the tent



Hopefully have power and slates on soon so I can get the suspension back together and have some proper space to work on it next trip home

I’ll need to rebuild the suspension etc to be able to move the car into the garage once the roof is on then will have some proper space to get cracking.
