Run around?

Post by Gareth » Fri Nov 25, 2005 12:54 pm

So since my "anyone got a car I can rent" on yahoo went down a treat I'm looking to find a <£500 car this weekend.

Any suggestions?

Auction/autotrader/contacts/local garages with a 'trade-in' section...

Stay with Ford/Vauxhall ish sorta things. Italians can't hack the Scottish winter, froggies can be similar...

Best cheapo bargains are always though a 'mate of a mate' so not ideal for a 'need it now' situation.... :(

guy in work has a carina e on 98k miles that needs £200 of work done for an MOT - the garage owner said he'd take it off his hands for nowt to prevent him paying a scrappy to take it.

The thing runs fine, but needs new brake pipe and new suspension bushes or summit for MOT purposes

Last year I taxed the 2cv for a winter car but hardly used it......

One morning I actually went to the trouble of clearing the ice off the 2cv only to take the elise at the last minute....

Not worth it, just run the liz, you know it makes sense....

For £500 you can get a hard top and a set of snow tyres or chains. remember the liz was tested for a winter in the alps.

Yeah Gareth, I have also heard/know Beemers are excellent in the snow, rear wheel drive and early models no traction!

Sounds like fun!

Esp turbo diesels, big gobs of torque coming in low down the rev range... :)

Never mind, you might knock some of the rust off... ;)

Actually looking forward to getting it. Nice booming heater.
Unless I put the car in the garage at nights, as soon as I get in the car my bodyheat steams up the windows and you can't see nowt. So with the crappy S2 heaters it take 5-10 mins to clear.
