I arrived a minute or two after it happened. Cylcist approached my car and informed me of what happened/asked for the road number etc... He was on phone to emergency services.

He did make comments on what happened and why he felt it happened. Just shows you never know whats round the next corner...

I dont think people should be making comments about the cyclist. He had every right to be doing what he was doing. He was very concerned and very helpful. He could have just cycled off remember.

Still glad your ok and recovering. Never good to see these things happen to anyone. :(

To be fair unless I have missed something I dont think anyone has posted anything unfair about the cyclists' actions* (Should i not have paid enough attention I am within my right to retract that statement said with authority!) i will also adorn my spandex and stick up for said cyclist, the fact that he got straight on his mobile to the emergency services and seeked to find out the road name and help out says enough....

Yeah, I wasn't commenting on the cyclist in Stuart's incident. I was commenting on cyclists in general after the couple of "all cyclists are crap"/"all cyclists are great" comments.

Oh and by the way red light jumping is ridiculous and the green man is for pedestrians.
:thumbsup Wise words indeed.

Hmm. If they were non-car owners and you assessed their contribution to the road system through their income and council tax I think you would find they were subsidising you, but never mind.
dezzy wrote: They don't have insurance to cover the cars they sometimes cycle into and damage.
But they are still responsible for such damage, in the same way that if someone wheeled their wheely bin into your car they would be responsible. See also the posting of the home insurance covering you for public liability, which covers this case I think. There are more uninsured car drivers than uninsured cyclists, BTW ...
dezzy wrote: people that cycle to work each day during rush hour that don't have lights, cycle on pavements and cycle through red lights. They give the rest a bad name.
Agreed.
dezzy wrote: I think cyclists should at least have to have registrations and perhaps even insurance, the same way other vehicles do.
Nonsense :-) Cycling is to be encouraged for so many reasons that it would be ridiculous to restrict it by introducing expensive and pointless bureaucracy. Remember each cyclist that you pass in a milli-second on your way to Tesco is one car fewer to wait behind at the next traffic light.
dezzy wrote: If you want to claim they have the same right to be on the road as cars, then they should have to comply to the same rules as cars.
Agreed, but remember many many drivers break lots of rules of the highway code every day, sometimes without realising it and generally without ever being cautioned or prosecuted. So if it's draconian enforcement you want, that might spoil many people's days. Meanwhile if it's application of common sense you want, then I would agree. Lights would be nice, staying off busy pavements, don't jump the reds, etc. are all good ideas ...

Cheers,
Robin
