It's a fecker right enough. But don't let it get you down. A scratch on a regular car usually needs immediate attention due to risk of rust. I got a similar gouge while parked in Edin Airport a few years back, that one was presumably sheer carelessness by a passing fellow traveller. Waited a couple of years for another violation of same panel before getting it fixed, by Steve Walker Bodyshop Bathgate, £300 for 3 panels. Pretty good going.
There are many upsides to owning an essentially aluminium and plastic car, and not just the way it drives

Jealousy is a terrible thing! Gutted for you

Have had it happen to one of my previous cars & there is nothing worse! Hope its not going to to be too pricey to fix!

Just called ChipsAway - the guy was round within the hour - they won't be able to fill it- it's a respray job!
So the 3 quotes so far are - £250; £280 and £350 - all excluding VAT

- I think I'll leave it for the moment!

is it down to the base?
if not then i don't see why you shouldn't be able to buff it out - granted it'll take a bit of doing but it doesn't look much worse than some of the damage i've done to the ducati chucking it down the road over the years and generally speaking rubbing compound and a few hours of wax on / wax off has done the trick for me in the past.
certianly worth a try IMHO
quite happy to do some of the rubbing if your arm gets tired!

Bummer, mate.
think of it as an oportunity to make the back of your car really cool - either with cheap black paint or vinyl!!
now I think that looks great, but that's just my opinion! - it'd certainly be cheap to achieve!!

I posted a photochop of doing exactly that and it was shot down in flames a few months back!
I would have thought you would get a sprayjob done a lot cheaper than £300odd bucks though.

Rob,
The mechanic at my work says he would be willing to give it a go, but with out seeing it, can't say how effective the repair would be. He would need you to supply a touch up paint, and he would buff & polish out the scratch. We also have a body shop who we give a fair bit of work to. They are very good, and quite cheap... could be a 'plan B'.
Let me know if any of that is any use.

similar enough to what i'd have done, it's worth a go tbh as even getting a professional to try, it will cost £50 and will get you a noticable improvement even if it's not totally perfect.
also if the scratch is basically level you could perhaps just cover it with a sticker?
