Pics of Ti S1 with black wheels any one?

Post by Rich H » Mon Nov 20, 2006 6:25 pm

My alloys are looking a little tired... They have a couple of scrapes form the previous owner and a fair amount of corrosion on the insides so I am looking at getting them refurbed. Phoenix round here do a set for £200 including refit and balance.

I was thinking about going for black/satin finish, anyone got pics or an opinion?

I had my S1 wheels done to black (pics in gallery) and paid £150 incl valves, tyre off and on and balancing.

Should look good. But get matt black not gloss.

gloss black turns matt after a couple of hours driving! - brake dust can be your friend!

I don't have many S1 pics (loads of S2, though) but here's a couple

looks 8) Rich.
Matt Black goes really well with the darker coloured cars. :thumbsup
SteveBank's old S1 was a good example...

I was thinking about getting my spare 111s wheels powder coated to matt black, but not sure how it would look against calypso red...

any photos from anyone appreciated...

Just mentioned this on another thread and it's been mentioned before on here too. 12 spoke S1 111s wheels have been known to shatter after being powder coated. Some people get away with it, others haven't. Decide if it's worth the risk before you do it.

Had mine on for 5k miles, no issues.

I have not heard of any shattering since someone mentioned it when I had mine done (and that must have been about 12 months ago).

They have shattered on cars, something to do with the baking process weakening the spokes. It has only affected the 12 spokers AFAIK.

Cheers gents, I like!

They are being tarted up and painted not powder coated like the original finish (Just satin black  )

All I can think is that the original casting had some flaws in and the powder coating process (Autoclave) just exacerbated them. Don't fancy that at all....

I'll look into it and chat with the proprietor.
