pulled out of work this evening accelerating gently, car still cold, out of the corner of my eye caught sight of a dog at the side of the road, hope it doesn’t run out, OH F***K, brake hard, hit dog, stop and get out and catch the dog, the woman walking it had another 6 on leads and the dogs collar had slipped. Dog taken to vets, police called, me breathalysed, 1st time in over 30 years driving.
Inspect car broken headlight cover and indicator, no sign of damage to the body work but will look closer in day light.
Not heard how the dog is yet but owner has said she will cover the cost of repairs.
Having only had the car for 3 weeks hope this is not a bad omen!!!!

Bummer
Did that about a year or 2 after I passed my test. Smacked a Golden Retriever with the front wing of my Astra at around 40-60mph then hit a wall as I'd swerved to avoid it. The bloody thing got up and wandered off afterwards too!! Luckily I had people stop who found the dog and the police traced the owner and they paid for the damage.

Sympathy for dog is great however given the potential cost of lotus repairs it is worth not forgetting that it is the person in charge of the dog who is responsible for all costs involved as the dog should be on a lead at all times while on the "queen's highway"
PS despite what that sounds like I do actually like dogs!

One of our dogs escaped from the garden a year ago (The garden was like Guantanamo bayt without the overalls BTW) when he tunnelled out under a fence. He ran straight into the road and was promptly hit by a 106 at around 40mph.
He smashed the bumper a headlight and indicator and split the radiator then walked home....
Woman tried to get my mother to give her cash for the damage on the doorstep and was told (Politely) to poke off and report it to her insurers who could then claim as appropriate (Poss household insurance?) but she came back to the door a week later with a repair bill for £400 and again insisted that we pay for it, at which point my brother (Not the most diplomatic it has to be said) told her that the dog had died from injuries and to FRO. Would appear that she had no insurance.
Dog is still alive and well and a trip to the vets revealed a bruise to his ribs and a cut above his eye. tough little sod.

Basil, thats the one, all the dogs are her own, think she is involved in rescuing them.
Bad news on the car the damage is worse than I expected, passenger door all scratched, sill panel cracked, will want this replaced as well as the head light and indicator.
Will take it up to Steve Walker for an estimate. Hope the dogs bank book is well off
