PRRT fit (Finally!) UPDATED!
That is exactly the layout of mine but my thermostat housing is a sort of translucent cream colour, I wonder if it's the wrong part? I take it when you say blan on the thermostat you mean something to hold the seal in place? I chopped the insides out of my existing one.

yes the blank is only a hollowed out thermostat quite shocked at the price for half an thermostat but required as a seal only
the grey thermo is the latest ment for the k series ,were as the cream one is a bodge from a v8 accordind to simmon e
the grey version has a lower temp thermostat and weaker prt spring
it can be bourght on its own from landrover and cost approx £8 when i enquired last summer

i have got a home made bleed screw very high up fitted on the oil/water cooler ( old piece off top coolent pipe )
however before that i have used the easy bleed with low pressure on the exp tank just to push the air along ( bad memorys of sill pipe leak )![]()
Nowt to do with the cracked expansion tank, I'm sure

Cheers gents, looks like I was sold a dummy by the Landy dealer, barsteward. Nevermind. I'll see if I can track one down round here. At least that explains the temp difference! Also I know everything will come apart...

Not at all mate - I have the very same one. Will replace with the low temp Erland one when he gets around to selling it. The original kit was a bit of a bodge, yeah, but it's still a million times better than the original setup.RICHARDHUMBLE wrote:Cheers gents, looks like I was sold a dummy by the Landy dealer, barsteward. Sorry rich i didnt realise you were using the landy kit. Also i meant to say spider pipe not trap. This is the small pipe that feeds the top of the expansion tank. If you follow it back to where it merges with other pipes you will find a fitting which has a ball bearing inside. The elise parts stat needs this removed or in some cases the temp can fluctuate. Cheers Craig.
The pipe from the top of my expansion tank goes to the inlet mainfold..... I'm confused now!
I will track a landy dealer down adn get another stat. For £8 it is worth a try. The blast on the m-way proves that it works (Rock steady at 94) but it rockets on stopping to 99 then slowly falls again. Could be the bypass spring being too stiff? I dunno. But I'll find out!
Thanks
Rich
PS I will take some pics tomorrow!

Geary can probably supply you the correct thickness pipe as he also supplies the same type of pipe for fitting the oil cooler kit. Pretty sure his pipe has the bell on it, so am guessing he could organise that too, for a price
Alternately you can rob the pipe of various scrapped cars - most K-series engines have metal pipes leading to the thermostat, so if you can get hold of that pipe you can cut to length, though then without the bells.
Cheers,
Robin

Pretty sure that the ali pipe is the oil cooler on Shugs car and my cooling system is the original layout so no pipe required. I had to cut one of mine down as it happens. No bell ends here (I think you mean bead?!) I just made sure there was a good length of rubber hose over the pipe and jubilee clipped it at the end, even if the clip did come off there is little chance of it blowing off as it would have to move 3" or so and kink the pipe, unlikely when it's under pressue. I did try (With a hammer and a screwdriver as it happens!) but the pipe was too thick, nearly 3mm! So no chance without a brading machine.
I do have the pipe I cut off though which has a slight bend in it, I'll take a photo if I can find it. It's about 6" long with a bell end.....
I'm still going to change my PRRT as I'm still running at 94 which, although not dangerous it does make me nervous...
