Would a air field be a better option for a first time, dont want to end up in the armaco on the first corner

Nope, I'd say KH is as good as any circuit for a novice - speeds ain't huge & there's always plenty folks willing to give pax runs / advice to help you out

Oh, and welcome

there's a few of us heading down to essex on an airfield training day in March- A walshy day
http://www.carlimits.co.uk
there was also talk about getting a scottish elises day in knockhil to play around and feel the limitations of the car - think it died though :?

we're doing that first before i crash on track - it'll make me feel alot better

p.s. don't know what your experience is with the elise, but be careful out there. It slapped me on my first day of ownership for not having enough respect - luckily i didnt hit anyone but was facing the other way on the roundabout!

Ian has been very well warned! The night we test drove the car was pretty frosty or wet, one or the other. He is a trailbiker so knows a bit about weight transfer etc ;-)

Oh, and of course, welcome Ian - at last, you old b*gger. You better not be using your mother in law's broadband to read this...

As for trackdays, Knockhill is a marvellous intro and SIDC (Subaru Impreza Drivers Club) with whom we have attended trackdays for years, have their first 2007 event in March I think. Extremely well organised, very good standard of driving, and usually a freebie instructor on hand to help out novices. Really recommend this, it's how I got started.

There is also the Club Lotus weekend at Donington in March we've been talking about, trackday on Saturday via Lotus on Track (search google for their contact info, you need to join I think). I have never driven Donnie so can't comment on how it would be for first event, however there will be a lot of speed merchants out there so you may want to avoid. You will find yourself using the mirrors a lot in the early days and it can be quite distracting. KH is just that wee bit shorter and friendlier, I think.

Have you found the thread about your roof rails yet?! Hint - search on "Cant rails" ;-)

Very Drunk and Just Crashed were more what I was looking for, but I'll give you half points for that Richard :-)

Must be the most frustrating time of year to buy an Elise, but I think everyone gets a voucher for a month's free rain with the V5

If you've bought one of those old S1 contraptions you'll prob. need all your spare cash for repairs/trying to make it look good anyway
