Hi, Andrew - Congrats on your first season - well done - we met briefly at the ICR garage at a race meeting.

As an ex-XR2 driver, was also at the XR2 racers kart evening.

Brian.

:welcome

I was gonna do XR2's... went up to meet Ian Cowie a few years ago and he took me out in one. Wasn't fully prepared at that point (me, or the car). Poor weather, he went off on to the wet grass round the back of the circuit and I sh1t a brick.

I then had a look at the Caterhams he had at the time... decided to go up and check out a couple of SMRC race meets before deciding anything. Caterham field was almost non-existent at the time so racing didn't look fun for the money (not sure what it's like now). XR2's were like demolition derby... 1st corner pile ups. Decided that I would get so annoyed if I paid my race entry to be punted off 1st corner...

Felt the saloons was the best option... tried to get some sponsorship from my work but they refused...not sure why I didn't do something else about it. Had my ARDS pack and doctors appt sorted and everything... bugger.

Anyway, welcome... I undertsand how you could be skint running in the XR2's...

Caterhams are still a bit thin, I think off the top of my head theres usually about 4 or 5 out at each race but there usually split between the 3 classes so theres usually only 2 or 3 racing against each other at any one time

I think XR2s have improved, your going to get bumping and the odd crash when the racing is that close but I think there has only been one proper pile up this year and only a few avoidable incidents.
Ive had 3 "proper" crashes this year one where I went off all by myself and was collected by someone while I crossed the track going sideways pointing the wrong way, another where I had a bit of a "misunderstanding" as I was trying to get past someone ended up clipping the right rear corner under braking and we both got sideways and I managed to over correct and steer msyelf straight in the wall halfway down Duffus, another which I was totally innocent in and was t-boned in driver door on the main straight when the 2 guys next to me got together and one of them speared across the track.

I have plenty of little dents here and there but don't bother fixing them, a bit of hammering with a piece of wood is enough :)

I think damage costs this year have been about £1500 which isn't really a lot when you consider it probaly costs more than that to fix one corner of a caterham
