Murrays

Post by The_Rossatron » Fri Dec 23, 2005 1:26 pm

Thought I'd stop by Murrays on Wednesday as I had the afternoon off. Just wanted a look and a seat in the 06 cars really.

Graeme was trying to sell me the old 05 model year cars for a discount. The deal seemed to be around 3k off, however told me that my 14,000 mile 51 plate S2 was worth £11k trade, even for trade this seems a little low to me, especially as they are selling a similiar car (might be Ed's old yellow S2) for £17k. The special offer essentially was giving me £14.6k for my car.

I'd rather sell my car privately and get an 06 car to my spec or a used R or Exige which would make much more sense. I'd love to buy a car from a dealer but I can never justify these crazy premiums.

Any thoughts for fun?

I got an email this morning saying the same -3k off a car or 3k added on to trade-in. Ideal scenario is sell your car privately and get 3k off an 05 car. But if you want an 06 then thats not much use.

I personally wont be buying new cars until I can afford to lose the money they do in the first two years. Just take a look at sub 20k 04 111rs to see what I mean.

Got this from Glasses Guide:
Lotus Elise Sports Tourer
1.8 Petrol 2-door Convertible
5 Speed Manual Rear Wheel Drive
Year: 2002 51
Mileage: 14,000 (lower than average mileage)
Part-exchange Price:
Excellent condition: £13400
Average condition: £12000
Below average condition: £10600

That is indeed my old car and its got 30k+ miles on it.apr 2002 02
I basically got £15.5k for my car against the exige so you should certainly get a better deal than that!!
I think the second elise market is flooded at the moment, and therefore not a good time to sell privately. Hopefully things will improve in the spring!

Was in there on Monday, Graeme offered me 9.5k for my CTR but wasn't taking anything of the Exige I was looking at.

Trade in was a fair, but not great, price. If I could get that privately I would probably be happy.

That way I can buy privately, already got someone down to 23.5k for their 1 year old Exige.

Just need to sell my car first.

Unfortunately the prices seem to have taken a hell of a tumble recently. It doesn't really bother me that much as I've no intention of selling mine. I certainly couldn't be convinced to change to a 111R as I don't think the performance difference is worth it. I worked out the power to weight ratios of my car and a fully loaded 111R a while back. There was only about 5bhp in it. Ok, the engine should be more reliable but it's a lot of cash just to avoid HGF.

If it was going to cost me the best part of £10k to change, which it probably would, I'd rather keep my car and go down the Honda route.

Yeah - there's a huge oversupply of used Elises at the mo...

At one stage (dunno about now) there were over 200 used Elises on Pistonheads alone!

Kinda annoying as there may be circumstances forcing me to sell the Liz in the not too distant (fingers crossed not) and mine would be about the least likely to sell, what with being a bit tatty at the moment and tuned.

Ah well just gives me an excuse to hang on to it longer! The standard car is more than enough for my 'skills' just now anyway!

Wouldn't mind a sensible exchange for a slightly comfier 111s though.

It does amaze me how dealers never give any discount off their stock even if it is brand new I would rather spec something myself.

I noticed wilsons (i think) were offering £4.2K off their 05 111Rs in Autotrader.

......although a few months ago graham offered me a "free" touring pack worth £2k on the 111R so you aren't getting masses off the older 05 stock.
Focus ST estate, i3s and more pushbikes than strictly necessary.

....did i ever tell you about the Evora and VX220 i used to own?

You can always get a discount unless the car has a waiting list. It's just a question of how much you're prepared to haggle.

Or you could just mod the arse off the car to the extent that it isn't worth changing :-)))))

Wouldn't even like to guess what Graeme would offer me for my 51 plate.

If I were interested in a 05 deal I would be calling around other dealers too. £3K seems low, would expect more.
