Remember a few years back I came over the A686 from Penrith to Newcastle and it was a storming road with everything from quick stuff to hairpins. Dan from JPS will probably know it well!

Did that Fintry road you guys have mentioned for the first time last year . . . was great fun. Some of it had been resurfaced when I was on it, but not all.

I think there's a few hairpins on some of the country roads out this way, but I can't remember them off the top of my head. Good excuse to go out and look for them in the Liz when it dries up a bit! :D

Yeah there's a few decent corners in Mull between Craignure & Tobermory and beyond. But watch out! Some of the roads are badly potholed. Was there last October and could only manage about 30mph on some sections (& that was the straights!). Can't think of too many hairpins, but there's some cracking roads on Skye and also the road from Inverness to Gairloch then up to Ullapool is well worth it. Nice scenery too!

Kames sprint circuit has the tightest hairpin in the world (any tighter and it'd be a 3-point-turn).
I believe the circuit hire costs are very reasonable...contact East Ayrshire Car Club.

A short circuit, which you can run both ways, so plenty hairpin action :P

Loads of run-off compared to the public highway too

The Kames hairpin is probably my least favourite corner, due to needing to feed the wheel, and driving a front wheel drive hatch. However, in a rwd it is probably an interesting challenge to find the perfect balance of steering and throttle inputs for fastest cornering.

Kames is very unlike bigger track driving, imho. It is so much narrower that it feels more like country-lane driving....just without the prospect of a tractor pulling out in front of you.

Reminded me of the Chinese A1GP race from last year where they had to modify the track as the cars couldn't get round the hairpin: http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/55576

Back on topic, I took a drive out from Kippen-Fintry-Denny (along the north bank of the reservoir) on Saturday afternoon, first time I'd been out that way and really enjoyed the drive :thumbsup

Kames hairpin is tight and the kerbs aren't friendly! but there are tighter hairpins on the sprint circuit. Golspie has two tight (and banked) hairpins but probably the tightest is at Boyndie. I'm told some of the single seaters don't have enough lock to get round if you just pushed them...gotta sllliiidddee. :D
