I've had no end of problems with them. I avoid at all costs now.

I saved myself a few quid today using a freephone number for carphone warehouse (FRESH Mobile) I got through "Say No To 0870" web site instead of carphone warehouse's 0870 customer services number. I really hate having to pay to phone a company to sort out a problem that is their fault in the first place.

Totally forgot that Rich worked for them. Anyway the lady was very helpfull and all sorted :)

My comment about problems with companies with 0870 numbers for customer services was a general one and not aimed at Carphone warehouse.

I have used them a few times, none of the others seem to come close in price for a 25kg parcel, but I certainly would not recommend them.

I have got away lucky however, most have gone OK, and the DHL driver is almost a family friend now, but the PS2 I sold on eBay took 10 days to get there, and the buyer thoght that I was conning him.

Another time I arranged a collection from Surrey, they missed the first date, then when they did arrive, the lassie was standing at the door with the parcel, the van stopped, looked, then drove away. She ended up taking it to the local depot.

The thing is it isn't parcel to go that do the delivering. Each time I've used them it's been DHL, except cheeper than doing it directly with DHL! Brilliant service each time I'm afraid.

I'm waiting in for DHL right now funnily enough. Laptop is screwed and needs to go down south.

For personal stuff (ebay etc) I either use Royal Mail for smaller items or CitiLink for larger. I sent an 18" Alloy with tyre fitted to Newcastle via CitiLink about 2yrs ago... cost £18 approx. Although I did take it to their depot.
I have no signature.

Aye, drop me a line for some advice off the record, but I can't help direct with your account as I'd be sacked and big brother is watching....

Problems I have seen is there are 2 divisions basically within the call centre, you have customer service and then you have customer/retail support.

If you get a customer service you get the numpties who have some power and deal with top ups, direct sales, bill enquiries, etc, the top level sort of info.

If you have a real problem you need customer support (ie ME!) who can do all sorts of things to your account, we have similar powers to a branch manager but don't have any sales targets or budgets to worry about. We also have access to the brains who know everything. If you get through to customer service hang in there, the brains are busy and can take a while to track down but there is always an answer! All that happens if you hang up is your notes say "caller hung up" and anything you had achieved so far (if anything!) is lost/wasted. If you haven't got long then tell us! If you want I'm pretty sure you can also ask for a call back, but I'll check that one.

One last thing (Get me fresh out of training!) over 80% of our calls are answered within 15secs, they have to be or O2 go mental and the company get fined so they are pretty damn hot on us answering calls. I go live on Monday so may dent that a little....
