A battlebus for £6k?
That era of mercs are built like sh1t. We had 20 of them at my previous place of employment, and they were nothing but trouble. 320CDi is a potent engine. That's what was in the S class's we had. The E Classses were 220CDis and were still pretty responsive, returning 28-35mpg, but were so un-reliable.jj wrote:CLICK ME
What a lot of car for the £ . And that 3.2cdi engine is a belter, I have driven a few mercs with it (ML and S class)
Talking of Alfas... (well I was)
Just been to look at this.
I now thourougly recommend the 2.4 JTD. Genuinely nice to drive, quick, the Veloce has firm suspension and positve turn in didn't feel nose heavy like I had expected.
This one is 2 and a half and the guy is looking for 9.5 or thereabouts which I think is probably a bit much - need to find out what the Impreza is worth...

It is difficult to retain interest as I fin myself thinking "I'm a car nut and I'm about to spend 9k on something on a car I can tolerate owning but no more..."
9k. I could buy an S1 for that.

I see my foray into this more as "this purchase helps me SUSTAIN the lovely Elise I already have, and avoid running it into the ground"...so in a way, I am putting the money into a Lotus, in a kind of regenerative, eco-friendly, organic kind of way. If you half close your eyes.
Very good. But for 9K I could get a 1k banger for family outings and an S1 for commuting in... Then we'd have three cars which would make the slightly fragile nature of our fleet more tolerable...campbell wrote:LOLpete wrote:It is difficult to retain interest as I fin myself thinking "I'm a car nut and I'm about to spend 9k on a car I can tolerate owning but no more..."

Do you want a PM if I come across any Sportwagons in my search (the one I looked at last night is ambitously priced - I expect him to reject the derisory offer I am about to make).

That would be MOST gentlemanly of you...sounds like you are well up to speed in the searching, whereas my focus remains the Skoda brigade. Tried a cracking wee Fabia (yes, I know I want a wagon but a peppy puddlejumper is an alternative if necessary!) and I am verree tempted!
Lisa was absolutely stunned by the black Sportwagon here though (now sold, unfortunately):
