Was there not a solar eclipse visible from UK back in 1999? I seem to remember a whole bunch of us ducking off work and standing in Morrison Street checking it out.

Not sure if it was total ecplise mind you, but it did get dark. One of those Anti-Glare screens off a monitor is quite handy for the solar we found.

Totally forgot about the Lunar eclipse last night... was watching a recording of Pokerface ...

That's the one Pete and I have mentioned above, but you couldn't see totality from up here. You could just about see it from Cornwall I believe, but I think it was cloudy down there. It definitely will get dark if it's a (significantly) partial eclipse . . . I think it got up to about 90% or thereabouts up here.

I was lucky to see totality from France . . . I know the partial eclipse might have seemed boring, but I guarantee you that the total solar eclipse is stunning! 8)

Thanks for the tipoff on this, we took a look around 10.45pm just as it was losing the last of the light, awesome. Looked much more like a globe than a flat shiny disc. Lets you understand the moon really is just hanging out there in the irresistible grip of earth's gravity...spooky, man.

We were lying in bed watching it, around 2300 in the SE, almost full red with a sliver of silver.

I have a pair of highish power binos, and through those it looked incredible, a perfect sphere hanging in the sky, surface detail standing out, and there were two bright stars either side of it.

Always wanted to be an Astronaut after I started flying and got to Test Pilots School, but I was waiting for Japanese technology, so missed out.

On the other hand I am still alive.
