Could need a solicitor
Just seen this on bbc consumer but need to find out if this covers scotland
Sold a stolen car
I've been sold a stolen car by a car dealer. What are my options? PL, Padstow
Entitled to full refund
Under Section 12 of the Sale of Goods, it's a term of every contract for the Sale of Goods, that the seller has the right to sell the goods.
Consequently, if you've had to return the car to the rightful owner, you're entitled to a full refund of the price you paid (irrespective of how long you've had the car and how far you've driven it). There's no way a seller can avoid the effect of Section 12 Sale of Goods Act.

Provided they are still in business you should be able to get money back - any progress on establishing whether the car is actually stolen?mutley wrote: Consequently, if you've had to return the car to the rightful owner, you're entitled to a full refund of the price you paid (irrespective of how long you've had the car and how far you've driven it). Have spoken to plod today and no one will be getting charged so should have the car back soon.Even if the last owner has a go at dispute of ownership he will not have a leg to stand on as the police have not pressed any charge for theft
As the car has been sitting for 1/2 year will get in to local garaage and have it check over.
