JJ,

Coatech just confirmed they'll need our rims for about 3 days. For logistical purposes, I will probably go with drop off one Saturday and collection the next.

So can you let me know if the wheel loan discussed above would be truly viable now, for approx a week? Haven't booked the wheels in as yet, need to work out diary etc etc but keen to know if I can go ahead!

cheers

Campbell

Don't count on the 3 days, he told me a couple of days for my undertray and it took a week :P

Er, no, as per my earlier post. Been ill, hence delay in talking to Coatech.

Axle stands it is then.

cheers for humouring me in the first place though ;-)

PS - but if you happen to be talking to your mate, and he still has no immediate plans for the rims, perhaps you can ask if he'll take a call from me direct to discuss. Ta.

I'm quite relaxed about timeframe (well, I am if I can put the Golf on alternative wheels for the duration). Ewan did my Elise wheels pretty quickly IIRC, and having got to know him, I think I can persuade him to keep up the pace given that we may be leaving the pregnant wife and the wee one carless!

There is a same-day alternative, but it's £90 more expensive and I could just about buy a set of older Golf rims as winter wheels with that

We shall see.

I can give you a loan of a car for a few days/the week if needs be. Nothing too exotic I am afraid.
Coatech are about 20 mins from here.

Jim,

Astoundingly kind offer but definitely a step too far! Thank you nonetheless.

Whereabouts in the area are you, then? My Dad now lives in the town itself, on Tayside Street. Works out of Commerce Street, Arbroath (Donald Ford Images, landscape and golf photographer).

He's playing far too much golf now as well, funnily enough...

I am about 8 miles inland from Arbroath near Friockheim.
Slightly off the beaten track

As for the offer, its not a problem if you change your mind. You could drive up here, stick the car on axle stands and leave it in the garage here and take the wheels off and then to Ewan. Obviously you could do the reverse when you collect. Between Wendy and I there are 8 cars up here and only me to drive them so it would hardly be a hardship

Anyhow.
If you get stuck then gimme a shout.

ps.. Ewan only took 3 days to do my elise undertray so he does have 2 speeds :D

LOL! Jim, you need help! And you are tempting me.

Let me talk to the missus and consult the diaries etc.

You know, this place gets more and more like SE Originals by the day...sense of team spirit = unrivalled.

Humbled,

Campbell

PROGRESS!

Thanks to both Jim Renmure and JJ for entertaining my requests above, however I now have Uncle Danny's Ford Probe 24v 8) as courtesy car while the Golf rims are up at Coatech in Carnoustie.

And a very nice runner it is too! Robin helped us lash up a bit of errant shielding which had exposed some pulleys etc on the underside, another classic Bojit Brothers special :-)

The run back from Carnoustie this morning was GREAT...I never knew much about the Probe as a driver's car, but I can tell you that the V6 (Mazda-based) is sweet as a nut, revs well and has several torques for much of its rev range ;-) Handling is also very impressive for a front-heavy coupe. I now realise why Danny is so reluctant to sell it on, even though he has a fast TDI in the driveway now...the Probe really is worth getting out of bed for on a Sunday morning.

Meantime, the fast TDI in OUR driveway is up on axlestands looking like something out the back end of Madchester :-( On the upside, at least I can get in to polish the calipers while it's up there :tired

Thanks again for earlier offers of help fellas.
