HELP MOT failure.....

Hi All,

I have a MY04 S2 111S and today it failed it's "f"ing MOT!

It failed on a number of things but no winscreen washer aside...

the two big items are - front n/s shock and exhaust flexible.

I gave Tut a call and he suggested posting on here to see if anyone could help!

Sooo.. does anyone have a shock or flexible lying around? I am based in Aberdeen but happy to put some miles in to get the parts - anything to avoid paying Aberdeen prices

Any thoughts?

Was it a new pump?

I did a quick check on things before going for my MOT last year, and the only prob was no washers, even though they had been working fine the last time I had used the car/them.

New pump from Halfords for a few £, easy fix.

Iain, there was a flexi pipe on the go a wee while back, but it might have been for an S1. Others will be along to help out though.

I have an S2 flexi section here in EDI that you could use if you were desperate.

*BUT* (a) is it actually blowing gas - if not, it's not an MOT fail and you need to go stick it to them.

*BUT* (b) I wouldn't recommend fitting a replacement standard part because it'll just corrode away again - instead fit http://www.ptp-ltd.co.uk/shop/ProductDe ... ductID=628 or any other s/s part (eliseparts no doubt sell one). Fitting the downpipe is not exactly a doddle (though much easier on S2 than S1).

If you just want to pass the MOT I suggest removing the damper, jet washing it until totally clean and dry, then refit it and get the car tested elsewhere.

TBH, I am surprised it's leaking - how many miles have you done in the car?

There are also some good deals on stainless 4:1 manifolds that replace the manifold and flexi section and with longer primaries. These make a nice noise and might even deliver a couple more Nm of torque here and there. The Piper S2 variants come with the correct mounting holes to refit the standard heatshield, which is neat.

Afraid not as I'm off that weekend - but if you did want it you could give me a bell and I'm sure we could sort something out. It's done 20K from new, BTW and the going rate for second hand downpipes is 50 quid - I would still buy the S/S one myself.

Robin - where about in EDI are you? A mate of mine lives in EDI Mon-FRi most weeks and could pick up if I don't go for the SS option.

I still haven't looked at the flexi in person - will take apart on SAt!! Any tips on access, inspection and removal?

Getting it MOTd at Dan's at the end of the month and it's an '04 111S but with a somewhat harder life having done 23k mostly road runs and track days

Well, there is a cutout in the undertray that should allow you to see the flexi section.

If you run the engine on idle and block the tailpipes with a couple of rags that should increase the back pressure and if the flexi is leaking you'll know about it.

TBH, if it were leaking badly you would know about it anyway ...

To get all round view of it, you need to remove the undertray

Guys just phoned iain so he can use my nitrons to get him through the test but other thing is, ive got a flexi section of exhaust sitting left over from the vhpd, anyone know if this is the same as what he needs?.

No, S1 downpipe won't mate to S2 manifold - he would need to use the entire manifold from head back to the cat to be the same.

what he said. S2 has a 6-stud fixing at the manifold-flexi flange, whereas the S1 is standard 4-stud.
