S2 - Front Bug Eye Projector Lights - Replacing them........

Post by a4drk » Tue Mar 06, 2007 9:47 pm

I have a 2001 S2 with the Bug Eye / Projector style.

I noticed on eliseparts.co.uk you can buy the bigger / newer ovals for £35 each.
Are they a straight swap ? - i.e. Is the gap in the grill the same or do i need to replace that too?

Also - while i'm in that area, the metal pole thing in the middle of the grill that you would tow from is all rusty. Is that easy to get out?

Assuming your S2 rusty pole (!) is similar to my S1 rusty pole (!) it is bolted from the outside of the crash structure so is a clam off job to remove

Had a quick look today, your rusty pole should be easily removed if you pop the grille out. It seems to be held in place with 4 nuts so should come out with a bit of swearing.

Eliseparts sell a stainless stell version but at £76 it's rather expensive IMO.

Thanks Simon!
A wee job for this morning (Sunday)
S/S looks great, but you can't really get into it to clean it properly.
I think i'll remove the old one & get it powdercoated....

cheers

Took the grill off - 10 sec job!

the 4 nuts are all rusty - WD40'd them & left them......
wont budge at all.

If I change the Bug Eye lights to the bigger ovals - i take it the grill is the same size?
It looks like they wil fit

As i said, it bolts thru the crash structure, it's a clam off job to remove  There is also a bolt on mine running straight down the pole too now I think of it.

Lights arrived. The brackets are different, so i've ordered a new set from Murrays.
Middle slat of the grille needs to cut to the same size as the top slat.

minor setback ................
