trafpol question
Coming to work this morning.
Dual carriageway, on a left hand corner. On the opposite side of the road, up a slip road, parked in a very dodgy fashion was a jam sandwich Volvo, radar gun aimed at my lane of traffic.
I was mooching along about x0-x5tuts, car in front about the same, car behind (a VERY pikey Astra with a smashed in front and inoperative indicators) doing about the same speed as me.
What's the chances of an envelope coming through my door requesting some money and giving me some points?

Plus, although it is only advisory, this is how the motorist got off the 157 charge, they should be standing clear of the car, and only tracking cars on their own side of the road.
As they have to follow and stop you if it is a radar gun, they would have to be on their own side for a Mororway, and most duals, to do this.
tut
ps Rather recent experience of this. However I never thought to ask them about the sitting in the car useage as opposed to standing clear of it.

Sorry to be the dissenting voice but i passed an unmarked car on the A9 around Kingussie and saw they had what looked like a hand-held thing.
They didn't come after me so assumed i was ok (was doing 80 in a 60)
Turned out it was a mini-gatso thing and got 3 points and £60.

Hopefully it was just radar tho.

Thats what must have got me back in 2002, as i dont remember seeing a van. Are they allowed to have gatsos in an unmarked car?!Lazydonkey wrote:Sorry to be the dissenting voice but i passed an unmarked car on the A9 around Kingussie and saw they had what looked like a hand-held thing.

It's not a standard type Gatso, in fact I don't think it is a Gatso at all.
(If we are talking about the same things)
I was recieved a fixed penalty through the door a few years ago, (1999) and never noticed any police vehicles etc on the road, when I made the journey, so I phoned to ask where it was etc.
Was told "you know the long straight (about 1 mile) between the Kingussie turn-offs? well there is a farm track entrance on the left side (heading north) near the end, well that's a site for a mobile camera. You can see three lines of tar across the carriageway, and beside the road there is a small metal post set a few meters back, that's where the camera is plugged into, the lines are sensors."
Apparently a camera can be set up and left there, to collect revenue.
There are also several other sites the same along the A9, (and also some that I've noticed around Dumfries) I once saw an unmarked Skoda estate (black) in a lay-bye a bit north of Kingussie, with an extension cable coming out of it and running along to the small metal post. I turned at the next oppertunity and went back to double check, and there were to operators in the car and a 'camera' set up looking forward. I turned again and parked in the lay-bye behind the car just to get a good look, and there was clearly a cable running to the metal post and that must trigger the camera if an innaporopriate speed is deteced across the strips in the road.
I don't know if they still use them though, as I've not seen them in use for years.

To me as i flashed past it looked like a hand-held radar but when the notice came in it said "supported by video evidence"
