S1 Sports Exhaust?

Post by Bert1 » Wed Apr 11, 2007 8:10 pm

Looking for a bit more noise for the summer

I have seen Lotus parts sell an S1 Larini sports exhaust for about £360. Anyone got an idea how much it would cost to fit? (I realise its a pretty big job!)

Otherwise anyone any thoughts on where to buy and fit a sports exhaust on an S1? Also, how much did this cost?

Cheers.

Fitting it is quite easy.

Like Stephen said, you realise wrongly  :P
It's not a big deal and half the people on here have done their own. The only big problems are rusted bolts that may require some heat/wd40/angle griding (see Dom for tips ;) )

as you are in edinburgh you are also close to the SE Guru team )Robin and Lawrence) should you need advice. Alternatively plan to fit it at a spanner and sponges day.

Check out NORLOG forums as they have a discount direct form Larini, or they did anyway...

daunting for a DIY newbie, but the remove and fit goes as follows:-

1:- jack up car ;)
2:- remove undertray bolts. the 2 allen-key bolts into the chasis can be a pig, mine needed grinding off. (once they're off, throw them in the skip and put on some 13mm bolts)
3:- remove bolts holding exhaust to catalyst (or piece of scaffold depending on the previous owner's preference). These can be a real pig. Grinder may be required.
4:- Remove bolts holding on the exhaust mount to the hangars. You would be well advised to buy new rubber mounts from Geary ar Eliseparts.com, as they'll likely be near the end of their useful life.
5:- get help from a friend to hold exhaust whilst the last bolts are undone (or balance the silencer on your bonce) and remove the old exhaust.

Repeat in reverse to fit new noisey zorst. If you've got an older car, make sure that the clam aperture can take the tailpipe. Earlier cars have a 'sculpted' hole in the shape of a twin tailpipe, so fitting an oval is impossible without a hacksaw.

While you're on eliseparts.com, get some new exhaust gaskets too. If memory serves, that's all there is to it. Someone will no doubt correct me :P

Holy sh*t, tech advice from Greg! What is the world coming to! :P

Get your exhaust gaskets and rubber mounts from your friendly rover dealer, they will cost you pence instead of pounds.

Also find a nuts and bolts stockist (Boat yards often stock them too) and get a new set of stainless nuts to fit the CAT. If you can be bothered whip (!) the cat out and press out the rusty old studs with a couple of large sockets and a vice then replace with stainless bolts. IIRC they are M10 nuts.

job is a carrot :thumbsup
