No hope for youngsters

Post by delands » Fri Apr 20, 2007 10:38 am

My son, Richard, turned 16 so am getting him through his moped CBT to get him mobile next month.
For curiosity I went to confused.com and input his details as if he was 17, just passed his test and no NCB. Put a quote in for an Elise (W reg) at £12k un modified... result... err, cheapest quote £5.5k and dearest was over £11k.

So, I tried it with our Daewoo Matiz, slighty better... £1.8k!

Hope that moped lasts him many a year.

Tried him for a CATERHAM SUPER SEVEN BDR 1987- 1700cc COUPE
worth £12k

feck....

cheapest £8.7k
dearest £17.7k which seems reasonable!

Just what is the cheapest car to insure??
Thought the £1k value Matiz would have been a few hundred.

Matiz not the cheapest to insure as they are SO unsafe IMHO. Louise's we bruv has just passed his test, and is paying silly money to go on his mum's insurance for her matiz. Would not feel happy knowing someone I cared about was driving a Matiz. Other cars will be cheaper. :?

Best bet it to get something a bit older, and insure it through Egger Lawson / Competition Car Insurance (Tell them it's used for the occasional autotest / navigational rally). I have a few mates who had XR2is, tuned, caged etc, who were paying £400ish fully comp with CCI about 5 years ago, aged 19. Maybe worth a try?

Hmm, I just got a fictional quote for a 17 year old at my address, 0 ncb, 1 month's driving experience on a W reg Elise and it came up at £1289.65

That was with Elephant so worth trying them on their own Del.

BTW, that was a 12 month fully comp quote with a £700 excess (£350 voluntary).

Sure you havent missed a number? That sounds ridiculously cheap, and I cant believe any 17yr old could get insured on a group 16+ car for that amount. I was more than that at 21 on a V plate elise.

Good maths there with the date. If that person is 17, then I am 14.

My car was insured at an A Band 1 postcode according to upmystreet smartypants
