oh - other lessons learned.

Bald Yoko's that have been sitting for 2 years are unlikely to work well for racing or track days (when you'd like to be quick as opposed to sideways)

Over driving ( as opposed to keeping it simple) slows you down a good bit, as I found out when chasing Mac's 7. In my attempts to catch him, i got increasingly sideways till i started loosing ground...another obvious, but valuable lesson

(cross posted from Border Raid thread to keep Uber Barge stories together :))

Oh yes Tut, once i have tyres that grips and you can bet the power we will have will be suitable with the Chief Engineer on board.

Spoke to the guy after Shug had called him while i was in meetings, and started to think about how to get the engine up north. Was going to get it couriered until Cheif Race Engineer Robin came up with the idea of a road trip in the mega bus to go and collect it instead.....to save us going to break his legs if its crap apparently :)

An almightly trip though, down the A68 in the Mega bus, with the occassional over take, to be just outside Stamford by 12.15. Did the deal and was back on the move by 12.45, and we bolted straight back.

I've found my racing partner if they ever introduce a Le Mans style race. robins 45 minute sleep and switch driving for the trip back North worked a treat :)

We got back to Edi for 5.30 this morning. Robin is a legend! We wrestled the engine out of the back of the bus and in to my garage.

I've been getting safety equipment sorted in the few minutes i've had today and have dropped a small fortune in the direction of Geary too.

Petrol tank fix is scheduled for Saturday afternoon now, so soon the beast will begin to take shape...tonights plan....to better the 2.5 hours sleep i got last night :D

The adventure continues..will cross post this to my uber barge thread too

So.... another few things purchased from Geary. (pocket change compared to yesterday which included Nitrons and various bits and bobs!)

Emerald purchased from Shooomer and off to get the latest software on it. Thanks dude!

Dan the legend, has sorted that out for me and got us a date for the rolling road at Emerald, which is the 16th of May!

The entry forms for Oulton and Silverstone filled in and cheques written.

MMC called to say the o-ring for the Fuel pump is in , and "Ali says its the correct one!" puts my mind at ease this time. Home to get the car prepped for Saturdays fuel tank removal.

Anyone fancies giving me a hand tonight feel free

Now need to get Racing Suit sorted...........FFS

Also have been starting to sort out the advertising stickers for the car....... and somehow i've managed to do some work!!

Well, its been a busy weekend for the chariot of rough love!

Saturday saw the fuel tank out and inspected. We replaced the o-ring and resealed the connection, to try and eliminate the petrol issue.

Seems okay now, although it was losing a bit after Scotty drove it (while chasing me in the 340rr), but since then its been fine and nearly fumeless. Fingers crossed. Job took best bit of 4 hours though and that was with an expert on hand! (not me  )

Last night Robin arrived, his first move was to present me with an FHM calendar for the garage! Quality! :) :)

We set to work on the 135r engine, taking it to bits to install the verniers and 285 cams. A few weeks ago i was nervous about changing throttle bodies, so this was quite a step up!

One of the best bits about doing this though is Robin being able to chat you through what everything does, what its relationship to other parts of the engine is, and what impact it will have on perfomance! It was a Jedi masterclass!

I had the throttle body out, blade out for measurement and then on to the inlet manifold, which also is now off the engine. Taking the cams out and following the 26 screws in order of release , went well and confirmed our initial optimism that the engine does look in great condition.

Putting the timing belt on was a PITA but the Chief engineer soon had it sorted.

Now we need the bits from Geary and we are good to continue our mission. Clam will be off shortly, and my learning continues.............I'll be heading over to the darkside when i get on track at Oulton

I should point out that Campbell donated the calendar and I decided it would be better hung at Team Rough Love than in my garage ... how Campbell came to have such a thing is for him to say ;-)

What HP/weight are you aiming for?
Also are you going to try to put some sort of quick release fasteners on the clams - might be the difference between getting a fix done of the next race or missing the race!

I don't think we'll be putting on quick release fasteners - if the clam has to come off, we'll just use Mr Grinder ;-)

HP/weight - For UberShed, the target is the 170 spec, i.e. 750kg without fuel or driver, which should be easy enough to achieve if you start with an early S1 I think (remember you add weight for all the safety equipment and you aren't allowed to modify anything much to lighten the car)

Cheers,
Robin

Early S1 that should not be a prob especially if Andy went for the non A-frame option. You think you can get to 170 with those mods to the 135 engine or do you have a couple more stages to go?
