Update from last night:

Riveted the shields over the inboard toe link ball joints.

Treated the airbox to some rough love ;-) It now has a more direct intake pipe feed - still needs more work, but will do for now.

Refitted the boot wall and tried to make a good job of fitting the emerald, but realised later that our plan of leaving the comms link connected doesn't work due to it fouling the clam - have a cunning plan to fix that though (and no, it doesn't involve the clam and a hole cutter).

Refitted the rear clam - hoorah - it looks like an elise again :-)

Day off today.

Tomorrow will hopefully see the new Nitrons arrive and we'll refit the wheel arch liners, undertray (new bolts and clips all round) and seats.

Thanks to George for yet another burning of brownie points and to Lawrence for the loan of his rivet gun when I forgot to bring mine over :-)

Cheers,
Robin

If possible, can you leave the passenger seat out. Makes life easier for me and cheaper for Andy.

Hi Dan

Thats not an issue mate :)

Did you order the harnessses?

Anyway another sound night finished of by starting the engine which caught on the first turn! Very excited about the first drive.

Chased up Nitron this morning, and have the Emerald up from Dan (cheers matey!) so another peice falls in to place :)

Night off (catching up on work!) ARDS tomorrow, and then working with Sony at the Vitality Show at the SECC all weekend. Anyone want a ticket for it just let me know. 20000 women will attend over the three days, so I guess i just have to take one for the team

Gimp suit still to arrive and we're set for another evening jaunt once i get back from the SECC on Sunday to get the RLC down to Dan's for some safe(ty) rough love

I can leave it unbolted but as we'll both be returning in the car on Wednesday , we'll need it bolted in safely by the time we pick it up on Tuesday night, IYSWIM?

delighted to have sorted my ARDS.

This was the one issue that would have meant i'd be solely responsible for missing Oulton!

out for the first drive last night after Robin had embarked on a friday afternoon frenzy to get her ready!

I called from the SECC to announce i was leaving early only to be told he was already in amongst it  Needless to say the Chief engineer was nearly finished by the time i arrived home!

New Nitrons on, new batt installed, and we're off to Robins to set up the corner weights, and finally a chance to drive the RLC.

Started first time and i set of on a trial run round the block. Clutch is sharp, engine rough a a badgers arse (running a temp may in the ermerald) and then off....tremendous. This car is LOUD.

REturn to find Robin laughing, and then off to Lawrences. The Jedi council set up the ride height, and send me for a blat to let it settle. Lost the number plate it later transpires.

Then on to the black art of corner weighting. Got it all sorted (thanks gents)

Went foranother blat, and found the plate! Awesome :)

Hit the bypass and put my foot down! hehe! Trying not to go too hard, given the fact it isn't mapped properly, but this is pretty rapid, and hardly resembles the car at teeside.

Could have done with Ed's car for comparison, but its way more rapid than it was, and its going very well.

Love the new CRB also!

Next mission is Newcastle on Sunday night to drop the car off at Dan's.....

A week today - oh fcuk!

Well it had it's first proper outing last night in the amusing conditions of dead tyres and lots of rain on the A68 down to JPS - Andy did a good job of nursing the car down there whilst keeping the pace respectable (1:45 door to door I think).

I decided to follow in Katie's 330D as it was cold and wet, which meant an easy run back up the A1 with the heated seats on :-)

No break downs and thanks to Simon I's emerald map it was a bit less rich though it still idles like it's only got three cylinders :-)

Next job is to collect from Dan's on Tuesday night and run it down to Emerald for mapping ...

If anyone fancies chauffeuring me down to Dan's on Tuesday night so I don't need to leave a car there, it would be a massive favour ... otherwise I'll be taking a car, leaving it at Dan's and then collecting on our return from Emerald.

Either way the RLC will be back in Edinburgh Wednesday night in race trim and ready to head to OP testing on Thursday night. Talk about cutting it close :-)

Cheers,
Robin

Greg :D

A great drive down last night and the RLC was feeling very nimble, very rorty and skipping past traffic with ease, as long as you took care, with wheel spin in 1st 2nd 3rd and even 4th once or twice - as much the tyres and flooding roads i suspect....not ideal road testing conditions, and a few sharp intakes of breath over standing water sections! And it was pissing down!

Was happy to be in RLC with the E500's on and tunes pumping, allowing me to take in the machine gun chorus with a flick of the volume switch

Had a huge sense of achievement and was delighted when we got to Dans. A massive thanks to all who have helped in a whole manner of ways!

Robin and i were left discussing what we'd created as we sat and waited for Dan :)

The legend that is Robin, was in the 330i support vehicle tailing me down. Have to admit after the weekend i'd had (charming slappers at the SSEC and shattered for it) i was happy to be able to relax on the way back up, in what has to be one of the finest day to day sensible cars made. Effortless and very comfy!

Another epic stage of the RLC's evolution and she's now in Dan's care, waiting for the rolling road on Wednesday.

in stanstead waiting for the RLC and Robin.

Battery problems this morning have set our timing back a bit, but the RLC will soon be off to get mapped by DAve [edit]Walker[/edit], and then we're heading back north!

Here's to getting it sorted and primed for Oulton. A048's arrived yesterday, so will be visiting Willie at CLCM on Thursday to get them fitted :D

Sponsor stickers also turned up yesterday :)

Starting to wonder what lies in store for me this weekend and looking forward to seeing the SE contingent!

Can't hear machine gun fire yet so Robin must be at least 2 miles away still :) :)
