Impreza WRX STi or Evo FQ 300 ?

Post by LotusLee » Sun May 27, 2007 6:11 pm

Anyone owned or driven both? All I know is the Evo needs a bit more servicing but is meant to be the better drive, any advice appreciated.
cheers

Lee,

I currently have an Evo VIII FQ-330.

Their was a post about this a while back but will give you my opinion:

The Evo is much more Elise like. When I was looking for a new car ended up going to Cupar as they are both a Mitsu and Scooby dealer so it gave me the opportunity to drive both back to back.

I took both out on the same roads and came to the conclusion that from a handling point of view the Evo was better, a lot more flickable and felt more intimate than the Scooby.

To be honest it is up to personal choice as you may not like this in the Evo. However the Scooby is probably a better every day car as the Evo just want you to rag it all the time. The Scooby interior is probably a bit better put together also.

However I buy my cars based on driving pleasure and can put up with these little things. If I wanted a suitable everyday car I would go down the BMW/Audi route.

The Evo does have closer service intervals but the interim service is just an oil top up on the diff. It may be a little bit more to service but you can also go to an independant specialist, if you are close to Edinburgh/Glasgow Extreme comes highly recommended.

One thing i would say is that the line up for Evo/Scooby is pretty confusing, do as much reading as you can. Denotion for Evo relates to hp mostly and the change between FQ and MR is with suspension and ligher rood (MR). However my FQ-330 is kicking out 385bhp with some simple mods. Scooby depends upon whether PPP pack has been adjusted. Like everything else these cars can be modded quite easily.

If you need any info then feel free to PM me or give me a shout.

Cheers

Fraid so Si, just don't get to use the Exige as much as I'd like with being away doing trials almost every w/end. The L200 is being replaced with a Mini Cooper too. I'll still be looking in here though as theres a good chance I will get another Exige or maybe just a shed of a Caterham for the odd trackday.

Cheers Douglas , I agree with your comments but in the end I went for one of those Prodrive chav-chariots :D Mainly as I preffered the looks/interior , servicing intervals and always fancied one in World Rally Blue.

I know this wasn't your question, but I can recommend the Fiesta ST instead of the Cooper (unless you go for the Cooper S of course). :thumbsup

I did consider the Fiesta and the Cooper S but performance wasn't really a factor for a second car, the Cooper will be cheaper to run and has 5 years free servicing.
