not a good week.......
hey this is tuts son, i'v sat down to read all the comments left about my accidents, its a form of education for me, in my defence there were honestly 3 men chasing my car when i went through the red light, as stupid as i am i wouldn't run a red light without a reason, and it was through fear of getting the car damaged that i did it but i live to regret it. i have no defence about crashing the car though, i made a mistake and i really do expect to pay for it, i won't be buying my own car until i have settled things with my dad because one of the worst things about the crash is that i know i have let him down so i have a lot to make up for. Anyway i'm sure u will all let me know what a twat i am come Saturday but not a chance i'll be staying sober for that! lol, thanks for u'r opinions on the matter, u probably helped my dad through this a lot better than anyone else could of. see u all soon.

I actually never got excited Neil, it happened, so it is a case of sorting it out.
Ian, Luke and Clare are coming to KH tomorrow, so if the S_E crew could take them out on some pax laps, that would be appreciated. Ian and Clare will be driving my car for a few laps after they have paxed and I have then checked them out, and I will then send them out with the instructor.
Clare has already done the KH Trackday course with Shell, although she was black flagged twice. A few people have told me that I should not let Ian drive on the track after last week, but as we all know, its the safest place to be, and he probably needs to get some confidence back as he is on a real low, and a bit battered into the bargain.
The police were around today to interview him, and they had a folder of photos of the car. They had gone back later in the evening to take measurements etc, and could not understand how anybody had walked away from it.
Fortunately I knew the senior PC, worked with him on a local safety campaign when I was on the CA, and he could not have been more helpful. He said that normally Ian would be charged with dangerous driving and lose his licence, but though he was pretty sure that they were over the speed limit, he could not prove it, and would recommend that it was down to inexperience. There was even a witness, though he would have been on the prosecution side, but they put him down as a rambling Sid Rumpold.
So far more than he deserved, but he knows that he has run out of lives.
Clare even put him on her insurance policy today for her Ford Ka, £153 for the year extra after he has just written off our car, whereas they quoted me an extra £390 to put him on the Focus for next weeks renewal. University for him in September, but out job hunting for the holidays next week.

Ian I have a 19 year old son who was in a bad crash and walked away so I know how your Dad feels. I hope that you have learned a valuable lesson. Take care of yourself. I look forward to meeting you over the weekend.tut wrote:hey this is tuts son, i'v sat down to read all the comments left about my accidents, its a form of education for me, in my defence there were honestly 3 men chasing my car when i went through the red light, as stupid as i am i wouldn't run a red light without a reason, and it was through fear of getting the car damaged that i did it but i live to regret it. i have no defence about crashing the car though, i made a mistake and i really do expect to pay for it, i won't be buying my own car until i have settled things with my dad because one of the worst things about the crash is that i know i have let him down so i have a lot to make up for. Ian, imho you do show respect (to your dad) by coming here and explaining the situation.
Tut, I guess you should be proud of your son! I know a lot of people at his age who would give their parents the finger (really!
:() The fact that he does come here and the way he's explaining what happened and how he learned his lesson is just brave! Well done to him!

ah, the days...
i remember having my first crash - wasnt thinking having been dumped by my first gf!!
felt so low.
was paranoid about not looking forwards all the time!
i had been driving for a bit then too.
i do remember on my first week of passing the test that i went over a hump back bridge a "little too quick". I quickly learnt that cars dont have wings
being honest about things, treating others with respect, learning from mistakes, and getting back out there with new wisdom are really all that can be expected.
seems all is on the right track

Thankfully a good ending and probably more than he deserves.
The Police have decided that it was an accident, so there are no charges, and I have just had a letter from my insurance company stating that the other driver has accepted full responsibility, so there is no excess to pay or loss of Ians no claims, and they are paying out the replacement value of the car.
I am fairly confident that he has learnt from it, his attitude is noticeably different now when he is driving, his pride was hit in a big way, and he has realised that he is not invulnerable.

ps Many thanks for the good advice and pointers that you all gave him, it made a big difference.
