What tyres for normal road use?

I've just found a nasty screw in one rear tyres and the full set hasnt much life left anyway so I think its time for a whole new set.

I know theres loads of posts about tyres and people talking about better dry grip etc, but honestly I cant remember ever reaching the dry limit on the road with the standard Bridgestones.

I need a set that will....

1. Be as good (bad?) as the standard tyres thats already there.
2. I dont want tyres that are useless in the wet, the standard ones are tricky enough with no ABS thanks.

3. They cant be super soft and last just 5k miles or something stupid.

So whats best? Elise Parts have "Yoko Advan Neova" which they reckon are the best value/performance/lifespan for £370.

Comments welcome as I think the car is now beached with a slow puncture.

It's an S2 right? The Yoko AD07s get a very good report from most S2 types. Road tyre with enough grip for most uses. Try MMC for prices, before getting them sent up - they have posted some good prices recently....

175s or 195s on the front?

I like the idea of more grip for braking.

175's are standard, 195's 'should' fit the wheels, but if you got the LTS spec AD07's from MMC then they would be 175's. (I think!)

Get the Yoko Advans (AD07s), they come in a 175 for the front but look wider than the Bridgestones to me.

Read somewhere (Or did someone tell me?) that the bridgys are a 175 main carcass with a 165 tread wrapped around it. Thats why they look (And the tread pattern is!) so thin.

Another vote for AD07s

I never thought I was a good enough driver to be able to tell the difference, but I think the difference in grip is amazing!

Got AD07s from MMC a few weeks back. Seem to work well on the road, much more progressive at the limit than Bridgestones.

A bid odd on track, mind. Fine when cold & good in the wet. Not too bad when really hot, either - probably not as much grip as some others but nice and controllable. I really struggled when it was damp or they were just warm, however. Had a really dodgy moment at the 'Ring when set off on a second lap after sitting to get through the barrier for a few mins - I wasn't expecting such a fall off in grip so quickly. Also really struggled there in the damp on them, though not yet tried them on the road in the damp, so probably best assume that was driver incompetence...

AD07's from MMC and get CLCM to fit them!
Much better than bridgestones.......dunno what they are like in the wet as it hasn't rained yet (must be lucky tyres????)

How are they in the damp/wet?

The Brigestone compund is pretty hard I think and so are slippy at low speeds, like roundabouts (we have a few near me

) and braking for junctions etc.
