As someone who is proud (rightfully or otherwise) of who you are, you should not rise to false reputation. On any forum you need to pick the posts worth responding to, and ignore the others. Probably many of mine included in thatEliseR wrote:Either are half the replies to this topic. Just living up to the reputation I am clearly getting for being honest

Instead you have gone on the defensive accusing half the forum of things we may not have done to excuse your actions and at the same time condemn us for preaching from our high horses.
Tell you what, stop action like a pair of spoilt kids and we'll all climb down off our high horses.

spoilt kids? how that ? I'am lost
Jim I took no issue with your reply, it was sensible. Like I said the name calling etc was just as mature as the driving being spoken about.renmure wrote:The internet forum thingy is a strange world where folk read what other people write and, to some degree, build up a mental persona of the writer and form an opinion of them which might be miles from being accurate. That shouldnt really be a problem since the forum is just another way of interacting and isn't real life. The main difference with s/e is that Scotland is a wee place and folk really do meet up in real life and so there is a bit of overlap. My original point (way back on page 1 of the thread) was that I wouldn't really want somone driving "as described" in my area in real life and if the police were showing an interest in someone who drove like that then that suits me. To be honest, that still stands. No witch-hunt, no high horse, no bad karma, just common sense.![]()

I don't think the senior members would admit to such behaviour in the first place. Oh I forgot, unless on the backroads!j33ama wrote:I wonder if one one our senior members had posted my original post ( perhaps worded in a more mature manner) would the thread really have made 12 pages ?
TBH Gary it wasn't really directed at youEliseR wrote:Jim I took no issue with your reply, it was sensible. Like I said the name calling etc was just as mature as the driving being spoken about. Gary.
See the meets section for a typical day in the life of.....Gary & J33ama! When do we leave?j33ama wrote:Ive lost interest to be honest , I have had my original questions answered through PM , by some decent folks whom although may have offer some words of wisdom about my driving , have also answered my original queries.
totally agree with your post bout forums being strange places Jim...they are indeed ....mental images do appear , would hate to think what mines is like !

Some of the advice that followed may have been slightly patronsising in tone but as you believed there was absolutely no reason to pull you perhaps the obvious needed stating.j33ama wrote:Anyway here it goes , gave the car a little burst on the main st , prob up to maybe 35tuts at most , in first gear so yes it was loud
and the 'gies peace' comments suggest you are burying your head in the sand with the belief that you are being victimised because you are young and everyone else are old hypocrites.j33ama wrote:Trust me if I was pulled for good reason I would be doing some sucking up , not arguing with them .
Young guy( look quite young for my age also ) driving flash bright orange car , obviously Id expect to be checked out , but not for 3 random checks!!
Perhaps you wouldnt have this problem being an older ( I presume ) driver, with flash/unusual car .

Our society is becoming to be a very complex thing. It's based on "what if's" all day long.
"What if a kit would have jumped in front of your car?"
"What if there was diesel on the road that made you spin?"
"What if ..."
etc.
Fact is.. It didn't happen..![]()
A car which produces noise may be stopped if it's producing too much noise, but apart from that, it's just that: a car which produces noise.
A car which looks like a fast car doesn't go fast all the time.
If someone pulls away with a fast looking noisy car, it doesn't mean the car IS actually driving fast. It may look or sound fast, but it doesn't need to be fast.
In fact, I've had a lenghty discussion with a judge about this and was actually able to convince the good man.
I told him that I was always driving my fast looking noisy car in first gear in built up areas as the kids who were playing could actually HEAR me coming. As in.. "uh uh.. danger approaching". The kids won't be stopped, but at least they have a reason to stop.
This sounds to me like a "we'll teach that boy how to behave" kind of thing. Grown ups call that harrasment.
In this case, I would go to the police station and ask for a quiet chat with the principal officer. In that chat, show that you're a responsible person who doesn't understand why you're being stopped by his man. Kindly explain to him that stopping you all the time could be explained in a different way, which could get him in trouble.
As long as you keep the tone down and try to be reasonable, he will understand that you're done with this game and are willing to take further steps to stop them.
