My mate has a small plate on his ITR....he got a £30 fine for it and when they checked his tyres he got £60 + 3 points for a dodgy tyre (tracking was out!)......is it worth the attention/reason to get pulled?

Although in contrast i've had a 3/4 plate on my car for 3 years and not had one issue. But then a 3/4 looks right on a VX, it may look very obviously small on an ITR ?
Focus ST estate, i3s and more pushbikes than strictly necessary.

....did i ever tell you about the Evora and VX220 i used to own?

yup the Elise is so wee the cut-down plate definitely sits in better context...you'd almost expect plod to pull the boys with the std plates..."Excuse me sir but your numberplate is obscuring your tax disc!"

Since my fiasco with the number plate have had no other issues with the barrhead polis. I decided to keep the plate on a) cause I couldnt be arsed removing it and, b) my plate isnt actually that small if you actuallysee it ,its a custom made size , not motorbike size.

It's kinda weird that I havent heard a peep from them considering the attention they were giving me last year .Makes me wonder if they have somthing on me and are simply bideing their time , who knows hopefully they have moved on to the next guy.

I was asked quite kindly to move from a bus stop few weeks back, and last week saw 4 coppers driving by checking the car out , only to give me a smile when I approached my car .

fishy or paranoid ? :?

My advice would be to have one made that looks in proportion , and doesnt cram the context together. Also leave a reasonable gap around the edges.

im just back in from galashiels after a wee bit shopping. got pulled for having no numberplate. the policemen in question were actually spot on :thumbsup they said they only pulled me cos they thought the car might be stolen, apparantly they had the same situation with a ferrarri last week with no plates on which was! once all my details were confirmed they started blethering about the car. i asked if i was getting booked for the plate and they just shrugged their shoulders and told me not to worry about it. didnt even tell me to get it fixed. was pleasantly surprised.

not trying to rub your nose in it j33ama

Ran a 3/4 plate for 4 years and never been pulled for it.

Have had trouble with a particular policeman in the past. Always keep squeeky clean just to wind him up. He tried to do me for failure to stop when he tried to pull me in a stupid place. I pulled over in a safe place 350 yards later and he said I had failed to stop when instructed to do so. Unbelievably it actually went to trial after 3 trips to court. Represented myself and they threw the case out. Put in a complaint and never had any trouble since. Still wave when I see him.

Dan@JPS

p.s. Must say most traffic police I have come across have been great. Twice been pulled doing license losing speeds and been let of as it wasn't really dangerous in the circumstances and the cops were reasonable. There are of course the odd little Hitler out there.

It may be quite hard to believe that the boys in blue , who keep society in order n all , are wasting there time on me but it aint for me , I know whats going on .

Just to recap , I had been stopped no less than 5 times prior to the pull for the reg plate . The car has been on the road less than 4 months.
I was 22 when I bought my Chrome Orange Elise. I KNEW I'd be a magnet for every pikey shouting abuse, every anti-car leftie, every copper looking to boost his monthly figure. So I did everything by the book - standard plate, avoiding driving through the town centre, using the hack to go to the shops (fear of getting it keyed, dinged etc). It was my only car for a time too but, somehow, I avoided trouble.

My old hillclimb car looked pikey, had a numberplate (full size) on the bonnet as there was no-where on the vertical face to mount it and had a rally exhaust fed by twin Weber 45s. It was fully liveried and was was 19. Was pulled once as I was told "we couldn't see your plate". They scoured the car, checked everything then decided 'all was in order' so off I went. They knew everything was above board so I was left alone. They could've pulled me everyday but knew they'd never find anything amiss so didn't bother.

Your car was/is not above board, hence you've been pulled.

As others have said, the issue is with a part of your car which is illegal. Therefore, rectify that problem, move on.

I'm nae being funny but you started the thread, posted on it on Saturday (asking a question) then when I post, suggesting the problem in question is self-inflicted, you come the 'end of debate' guff.

Which is it?
