If it was mine, I'd consider it, but the chances of me getting spanners on her car are pretty slim...

okay
time for an update

I was all set on giving up on these guys fixing my car, and gonna chance driving it to ali

however one last shot at it, i googled CEO nationwide autocentres, found the guys name, replaced his name in an email with an email that had been previously sent to me

i gave it to him both barrels, 10min later iv had a dozen phone calls and emails all apologising for their poor service and how they were goin to fix the car

anyway, they tried to come up with a solution as to how to open the boot, (the cable had come away from the mechanism) i was sure it would have to be a cut in the rear clam to fix it after reading all these posts about it

however what they did was take off the undertrays, and they unbolted the hinge for the boot, they then got themselves enough of a gap to unhook the mechanism?

has any1 opened a boot like this before? anyway, just thought id say, as i was dreading havin my clam cut into....anyway to cut a long story short its now serviced, they re attached the cable as it wasnt broken or even worn, and it never needed a single thing for its mot :D

all in all im glad its all over with

now can someone tell me how to a attach a fail safe incase it happens again?

thanks

glad you got it sorted andy...
my failsafe is a bit of string fed through to the rear right wheel arch from the hinge slider mechanism.

means i still need to take the wheel off to get it open if it fails due to my ride height, but well better than cutting clams!

Looks pretty similar to the failsafe I added just before the motorfair. I have to pull it pretty hard, but it does work.

I'm currently opening my boot via the rear wheel arch as the handle end + 6 inched of the inner snapped on mine. Awaiting a replacement (should come today I reckon) Lots of stuff to do this weekend for me...

i fitted an electric boot opener which is quite good. Not really worth the money if im being honest
It works by pressing the key fob + a discreet push button in the numberplate recess.

if it were to happen to me again, i would just replace the cable, but now i have it i need to justify my purchase! :)

All you have to do is tie a piece of string onto the boot latch (as in the photo above, try pulling it to make sure it moves the latch) then dangle the string down one of the holes in the boot, and tie it off on something that doesn't move, so that it can be got at from the outside.

Mine is tied off on one of the wheel arch liner bolt holes which was missing a bolt...

I can open the boot by stretching behind the wheel and pulling the cord.

Sounds like something I will do when I get mine back just for safety.

I think you should throw a how-to up for the £15 gadget :thumbsup

Nothing to it I mounded a linear actuator from maplin into the boot that now pulls the cable instead of the handel, If i get some time I will post some pictures

Tis one of those ideas that worked perfectly off the production line in '96, but twelve years down the line after more pulls than George Michaels wedding tackle, has had to face the real life of Elise ownership.

However twould not be the same if I was deprived of the anticipation of pulling that little T-handle and seeing what delights it was serving me up today.

I have a new method after my "fail safe" electric boot failed (cable came away from the latch mechanism) lift up one side of the boot lit and jam hand you will need to be skinny (this is painfull and you will be left with marks that resemble those from people who self harm, so warm friends and family) grab hold of the latch and pull

boot opens :D
