satabilisation in value/

Post by GregR » Tue Aug 15, 2006 11:23 am

Noseying for a friend that had a max budget of £10k, I noticed that you seem to get far less for your money than you would 6 months or so ago. I discounted the 'summer' increase, on the basis that the values were still pretty low in June/July. All you seem to be able to get on PH is the odd 50k+ miler for your 10k, unless you want it in a funny colour

I guess someone will probably post a hundred or so exceptions to my rule now, but has anyone else noticed a flattening of the depreciation curve... or dare I say it, a rise in prices from sellers?

I think its just one of those things. Cars over 18k seem to still fluctuate, cars around 8-10k maybe do fluctuate as much but as the values are smaller it doesnt make it as noticeable. I got more for my S1 than I paid for it so you must be right.....

its hugely volatile when i looked at it for a bit in June.

S1's seem to start at £6500 and go from there randomly!

Its S2 yota prices that are the most volatile at present, and worryingly so. GFood news for 2nd hand buyers.

Theres an 06 Exige S in black at MMC stickered at £34k. Thats at least a 5k hit in a matter of months

I picked up a copy of Autotrader this week (old style paper copy) and thought there were a few nice elises at about 10k.

South of the border is normally cheaper. Hang fire for another 2-3 months and watch the values dive

i saved about 4k by getting my car from the south of england, total bargain and i'd happily spend a day driving down to get another one. i'm not buying a "specialist" car north of the border agian as the prices up here are just stupid.

Total guff! Got my S1 near Livingstone, and my brother just picked up a clio V6 from ayrshire - both specialist cars, both good deals :) .

I'm with you Ninja!

loving my car so much at the moment, the 'satabilisation' in S1 value just brought a smile to my face. I never bought the car as an investment, but I was a bit worried when values had plummented to 8k for a good 'un! The 6.5k'ers I've seen all appear to have been Cat Ds etc, so I was never too worried about them.

Thing is, I hope I never have to sell the thing, I like it so much :D Only time I'm ever found wanting some more grunt is after the hairpin at KH!

Yeah, that's just a numbers thing. More population density down south, so more specialist cars per square mile. If you've got long enough to wait, you could get the same sort of deals up here, but the market is quicker down south.

So you're both right ;)

But then, there are fewer of them up here (exiges / 340`s), so thats different again.

I bought my exige in Devon, but there were no cars for sale up here so didnt have a choice. Bottom line is, you buy where there is a deal whether its down the road or a long way down the road.

I bought mine in Norfolk , a very long drive but it was what I wanted . Prices appeared to crash last August and the number of cars for sale was silly . I thought it may have been increased by the number of people downgrading to 111R's  Only time will tell what happens this year .

K series engined Elises are future classics and I am not selling until I get back what I paid
