I do realise it's tough, though! As a part-time cyclist of many years, I remain astounded at some drivers' attitudes. Albeit as a driver, I am of course regularly astounded by some cyclists' attitudes ;-)

I have had my own moments of red mist (as a driver) with the odd cyclist whom, upon calm reflection, was doing nothing wrong and in fact was "riding to the conditions" or "riding proud" for safety reasons etc.

The trouble is, as you know, unless you conduct both disciplines on a regular basis, it is all to hard to see the other point of view.

Hang in there...

As I said I didn't think there would be any point without witnesses/evidence, why would the police believe me ?. But from what others have said I will certainly be reporting this and see what happens, hopefully the police will be sympathetic.

Mate got BADLY knocked off a few years ago on his commute and he considered it deliberate - he also considered it attempted murder. He is not one prone to exaggeration.

He stopped cycling for a while.

Report it. Don't retaliate.

As others have said, report it now before they hurt, or even kill someone (assuming it's not a personal vendetta against you personally). I wouldn't want the 'what if' feeling if I ever found out they knocked someone else down.

Get a cam on the go if you have one, and if you hear nothing back from the police, or if the driver continues after the police have a word.

The camera might also help if they turn out to be a road raged a-hole and stop and have a 'word' with you..

Good point about them stopping and getting it on video. Don't really want to fork out for a camera though but haven't looked at prices, if they're reasonable I might just get one, seems like it would be worthwhile. Don't want to turn into one of those eejits that posts on Youtube every time someone cuts them up. I can live with the occasional twonk, that's life, but this one takes the biscuit.

Lots of cyclists are adopting cameras as active defence against nutters.

I believe the police will be sympathetic - they would much rather have a word with this person now than attend another fatality on the roads. With the current cycle safety media campaign (aimed mostly at drivers), all the more reason to strike now.

Cheers,
Robin

To add to the comments along the lines of "don't take retaliation into your own hands", one of my pals who commutes regularly by bike had an incident where someone passed him very closely; at then next set of lights he caught up with the driver, and had some words - things got out of hand - police became involved. It ended up being my pal getting into trouble as a result.

I know of an incident where an ex-colleague who happens to be a hardy sort caught up with offending vehicle at lights, gesticulated to the driver to lower his window, and then proceeded to smack the driver good-oh with barely a word uttered.

Maybe not adviseable though :blackeye

Where are you located? surely someone here can lend you a cam for a week. I have one in Dunfermline if you are close?

Absolutely with the Campbells, report asap, the probability is that it will end in tears if this is a regular occurance. Best outcome is that everyone gets on and behaves, there may be others on the receiving end of this dangerous driving too..
