Anyone used SP autobahn in Stirling for work? Came well recommended by my pre purchase inspection man, Peter Morgan.

Greg

Stuart in Stirling is very good, and has carried out work for me recently at reasonable rates .
His knowledge of the marque is comprehensive and prepares a few of the 911 race cars around these parts
Peter Morgan uses him for pre sales inspections in Scotland/North

Stuart will also give you a fixed price quote on the clutch replacement if you ask

Gail's Cayenne went into Glasgow Stealers this week for a major service and brake fluid change....................£540 (so as not to invalidate Porsche Warranty and continue with a book of FDSH stamps)
Its the usual conundrum between dealer stamps/specialist stamps...................... :D

I don't think it makes much difference at resale time on older cars so would tend towards using Specialists

The only other consideration is that keeping a full book of FDSH stamps may serve to soften the blow in the event of catastrophic engine failure

I've got a full porky service history so I'm only considering Indys for non-service work.

In the past when I have owned Porsche's I always found Porsche Edinburgh very willing to negotiate on service costs when presented with indi service costs to the point it was a no brainer. Especially when factoring in the courtesy car and nice coffee. And the kudos of keeping a FPSH.

Where they will try to take your trousers down is on the old brake disc scam but I used to just do this myself or at Motortune in Shotts.

I'm amazed you could get your car booked in. I tried to book the 993 in for a service a few months ago and called him countless times (always leaving a voicemail message) and emailed too (where he replied telling me to phone him instead!) but only spoke to him once when he couldn't get me off the phone quick enough and told me to call back the next day. I gave up and took it elsewhere.

Hi Simon

You are the second person that has stated this...................after me recommending his services
Stuart is a one - man operation who also gets involved in race car prep for Raymond Boyd etc. so sometimes he is away from the garage for days at a time.
When this happens, he usually leaves his father in charge of answering calls and bookings.

Have a look at the link below for the most comprehensive independent view on all the known Porker maladies from the guys at Hartech.
There are five mahoosive PDF files on the subject which make great bedtime reading
I am now reviewing my position as to which Porker to have next based on their findings
(Original 911's with separate cylinder blocks,944's and Boagster 3.2's appear to be better than some of the others)
There is a PH thread running where a certain well known warranty company are now welching on replacing 996/997 engines if the engine has not had a bore check beforehand.................and failure takes place within 6 months of warranty/policy start
This coupled with a conspiracy theory within the trade about the increase in 911 fires...............disgruntled owners claiming insurance rather than face engine rebuild/replacement charges

http://www.hartech.org/porsche_996_997_ ... guide.html

What we need within the forum is a "Porker Loving" Lawyer who specialises in dispute resolution............. who can help fight our cause In the event of something unsavoury happening in the engine department............. :thumbsup

I really tried to get it booked in and I may try again at some point next year but I was pretty happy with the service I got from Alan at Wilson's Garage in St Cyrus. They also prep a 2-car Carrera Cup team and they've managed to pick up the phone every time I called.

So, I've tried some new things in the last few days. I've tried a 991. I've tried a cabriolet. I've tried the 7 speed PDK. Yes you've guessed it, I have Porsche Edinburgh's courtesy car: 991 cab with PDK, PSE, Sport, adjustable dampers etc etc. all the toys.

First surprise is it's a 3.4. It has stop-start, very odd. Obviously she's a heavy girl and mated to the smaller engine than in the 997 it feels noticeably slower. It feels really big too. I don't like the PDK. Even in supposedly manual, in 'sport', it won't hold the gears and that's a shame, as the engine sounds great from 6k onwards. In town it is super smooth but I hope there's a lot of work done to the GT3's box or disappointment awaits for those that like control.

A very weird thing to say when you've got a £90k car at your disposal, but I can't wait to get my old girl back :)

After months of searching, I replaced the Boagster ........with another Boagster

This is a 3.4 Sport Edition with a few tweaky bits
Lowered Suspension
PASM - Adjustable Suspension
19' Wheels
Bodykit
Front spoler with strakes
Rear Spolier
Rear Diffuser
Sports Exhaust
315 BHP with Plenum and TB
Unrestricted @ 170mph
Image

Sounds great with a chain saw yowl at 4000rpm

It has tiny mileage from one owner and has a few " Old Fart" bits that will make longer trips a bit more bearable

Full Communication System with SatNav and Phone
987 Sports Steering Wheel
Image

Further tweaks to follow once I have tried it out on track

I also have suffered a mild dose of the DDTB's and have ordered Porsche side stripes for a bit of contrast

The car feels and drives totally different to the old 3.2
Heavier Steering,Firm Clutch.More Low Down Torque and PSM seems to let it hang out a bit wider and longer on the slippy roads

The ride is brutally firm on Sport Setting and will only be used when I find a smooth surface

Porsche Geeks wil also know that the rear lights are all red....WTF!
