Saw this and thought it was ingenious way to get a stub axle. Using a brass T piece.
EDIT: I've hosted the pic as the previous sources were a bit ropey.

Ferg,
Genius indeed. A fab no-weld solution. Just some drilling and bolting. What could possibly go wrong?!
Really appreciate you sharing actually. That bit has troubled me a lot!

I think the challenge would be getting that assembly inclined for the required kingpin and castor angles. At the moment I'm planning on achieving angles in wood and then metal sections bolted on. Still purely conceptual though.
Re: Soapbox tech
Angles? Kingpin? Just attached firmly will do me!!

That, Paul, all depends on whether one can weld or not

I could get you welding to a decent standard with a MIG in an hour or 2 in my workshop

Re: Soapbox tech
Why weld when you can mill & turn :p
Re: Soapbox tech
Good point. I never said there would be no machining.woody wrote:Why weld when you can mill & turn :p

I think the welding restriction is more of a guideline too.

In the Scottish cartie renege it says anything with body work has to have a roll bar. I know the rules for this one are in flux, but I'm aiming to comply with those rules in case we all really enjoy it and want to do another somewhere else
Re: Soapbox tech
That's a fantastic offer. I only have Access to Arc normally. Effective but not hugely graceful.thinfourth wrote:I could get you welding to a decent standard with a MIG in an hour or 2 in my workshop

Re: Soapbox tech
Ok, so what are you guys thinking about wheelbase? How long is too long? Seen any guidance on that? (Within size regs anyway) I suspect Ackerman geometry is easier the longer you make it.
Also, have slight admission. Was getting sick of missing out on cheap BMXs. Bought a set of wheels.
One extravagance and means we can move straight into mocking up the chassis this weekend.
